Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT By FAY ALVEY The Black Birds have moved back for the summer, hope they don't get disappointed; we have had some strong winds along with nice days. As near as we could find out the sick are all holding their own, lots of folks with ailments but no one critical; Jim Haycock can laugh Just as loudly as ever; Aunt Susan Heaps still has her sense of humor, and Alma Liston still won't admit that he has ailments. Vergene Porter, Jerald Thompson, and three Alveys Smith, Darrel and S. J. made a trip to the cattle range and report a shortage of water, Wilford Liston says that in spile of that shortage the cattle look good this Spring. Vergene Porter took his parents-in-law, the Clyde Spsncers tP Pangutch where Clyde had a medical checkup and treatment and returned the same day. Mr. and Mrs. Claron Griffin went to Provo for the ball gams between Colorado and the" BYU, and to visit their daughter and sorv in-law, the Jim Spencers. The Storx service Is cer tainlv a mess in this part of the County ; Dixie, Mrs. Ther-on Mitchell went to Panguitch for an appointment with him arid had to wait three days be-fore getting her a lovely baby girl,; Clema, Mrs. Roe Barney only had to wait twenty minutes for her daughter; and Ar-iis, Mrs. Norman Christensen t w8 enroute when their car quit on them and Uiuy hailed a passing motorist which proved to be Darrel Nelson of I'.en- rieville and his girl friend; Norman whipped the Stork out of the window while Darrel drove like mad and beat him to the hospital but by a narrow margin, they got a boy. Maybe if we could appeal to Rep. J. Arthur Cooper he could take the matter up with the law makers and improve th's service. Philo Pratt got word that he has a new grandson born to Mr. and Mrs. BoSbv Pratt who are working in Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lee of Panguitch were weekend visitors at the Wanless Alvey nome. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stowe have been to California two weeks where Vernon has been treated at the Veteran's hospital, he returned in time to go out collecting dog tax. Er-nel Porter came down from Ogdun to see about renting his house to th Paul Hunters, and of course he vis'ted relp-tlves and friends whi'e here. There is a seismograph outfit In here digging up the earth again, and we see dusty men going hither and yon. Gaden Gates was home for the week end from his Job at Glr rt Canyon. Several members of the Springville Riding Club came down and went on Grand Bench to chase wild mules and horaes, Arnold Alvey accompanied them to show them the wher and how, but all they got was the fun and exercise. Sariah Alvey, M'nnle Davis, Betty Alvey, .jlglba Qates, Eva dean Liston, Mae Vonn Taylor and Gay la Cordon visited their kinsman Leda Mae Foster of Tropic last week. Ro Barney, a proud new Papa took both sets of grandparents, the Claron Barneys and the Marion Woolseys. to Panguitch to see the tiny granddaughter. Elise Porter and Deon Alvey made a trio to Panguitch fcr medical checkups; Elise had hc-r lAds, the Jerry Colo-many of Kanab here visiting during the week then she and daughters, Arm and Kathy, went to Kanab for the weekend. The two Lynns, Gates and Usion from tlr Conoco station went to Panguitch for a bg banquet and celebration (continued Inside) ESCALANTE last week; Lloyd Gates was incited bnt had to stay and run the station. The local Riding Club held their meeting Feb. 28 In their club house with ten members present, they discussed Installation of a furnace. Garland Mitchell came home from college this weekend with a different car and brought Sharon Dale Marsh and lila!n Willis. Byron Cottam of Spring-vllle was hero visiting his par cnts, the I)rin Cottams, h was one of the speakers in the North Ward Sacrament meeting Sunday; others were Desmond Twltchell of Cannon-ville. Dale Marsh from the South Ward and there was a song by Dawn Griffin, Janeal Shurtz, and LaFae Bailey. In the South Ward time was taken up by Orln Colvin of Tropic, Layton Griffin and Or 'ard (Whltey Sorter of the North Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Porter and family of Mesa, Arizona are here visiting his parents, the Roland Porters. Amanda Mitchell almost had two of her sons visit her last week . Ru " ton Peterson of Salt Lake Cttv and Lars Peterson of Spanish Fork flew over in Rulon's plane and decided it was too rough to land so made a circle over the Reef where Lars has his cattle range then went back from whence thny came Sylvester Greek and familvof Fresno. California came with ther station wagon and trail er and got Sylvester's mother Clevia Mclnelly and took her to California for a visit,, part of her family still lives in Missouri, she took her dcepfreczo and some Jars of fruit but left her furniture. Dclmer Cottam, son of the Vic Cottar?, was here for a few days from the service, a delay enroute, he had with him a buddy named Garry, they could neither say nor spell his last name: they thought they were to be sent over seas. Kirt Garfield of Kirt's Radio and Television repair shop inProvo was here again last week repairing electrical appliances: he says that a lot of the trouble folks aro having with things blowing out is because the power is not the same all the time, in other words "it Is steady by jerks" If some Master Mind could look into this it may save us a lot of grief. Lorin Blood was with Kirt, and acted as his little helper, of course he looked for pigs on the? side but somehow they all came up missing while Lorin was In town. Thirty five students from tho BYU came down last week and put oif a very enjoyable program for the local people; they were taken in by different families for a night's lodging. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Cottam went to Los Angeles to sell Doyle's steers and camo back by Las Vegn. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Willis and Mr. and Mrs. Randall Lyman went to St George to ' do Temple work over the weekend. Eld-rid (Eddie) Mitchell is still favoring one leg.
