Show Dump Road Wreck Puts Four In Hospital The Cottam car Is shown with the top caved in on rocks where It came to rest. Four people from Escalante were hurt when the automobile driven by Victor Ellis Cottom, 62, went out of con' trol while coming up tho snow-slicked "dump" road about 9:30 Saturday morning. Injured were Mr. Cottam his wife Euzell, 57), and Mr, and Mrs. Beumont Griffin. All were taken to Panguitch hospital. While coming up the "dump" road the Cottam car skidded Into the ditch and scraped along the cliff on that side for 63 feet, In bringing the car out of the ditch, according to Sheriff George Mid-dleton and Utah State Patrolmen, Mr. Cottam lost control on the icy road and the car went over the edge, turning over one and a half times before coming to rest upside down 47 feet below the level of the road. On admission to the hospital Saturday, Mrs. Griffin was listed as critical with skull fracture, lacerations and bruises, she is now out of danger; Mr. Griffin was 'serious with a scalping head laceration, he is now up and around as is Mrs. Cottam who suffered a severe leg laceration; Mr. Cottam was treated for cuts and bruises and released the dajr of the accident. |
