J, (Hode) Alveys received word that their daughter Thelma (Mrs. Lee Smith) of Hawthorne, Nevada gave birth to a ten pound baby boy June 26, and it never did breathe; Hode and Ila went down to give what comfort they could to the young parents, but had te come right back. Bill Griffin was working for the Forest Service over in that Widtsoe country and became very sick; they brought him home then took him to Panguitch to the hospital and found that he had tick fever. He stayed several days and was brought home hut still isn't very well. Him taking sick upset his father, Ray Griffin, and he had a relapse, but is some better now, Naomi Griffin is feeling better than she has for some time. Minnie Davis overdone and had to give up and go to bed but as soon as .she-could stand up sho was back In the store. Her sister Wanda Hansen of Richland, Washing- 4 ,ton came to stay a month and leach Minnie how to take care of herself; with Wanda arc her two daughters Deann and Betty and son Lynn, they are staying with her parents, the S. J. Alveys. Mrs. Counnis Mercer of Chicago, 111. gave birth to a baby girl, and they called her Melody; the Mercers are uran .Jum seekers here but are planning on returning to Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Lane Liston entertained a group of friends playing Monopoly and eating watermelon. Mr. Hal Shurtz, local High School teacher, was made president of the Garfield Educational Association, and has gone back to Pennsylvania to a National Educational Convention; it is to run from Juno 30 to July 5. The Utah headquarters will be Room 412 at Hotel Benjamin Franklin. Accompanying Mr. Shurtz were Jiis wife, Jamil, and Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell, Mrs, Mitchell is Janeal's mother. After the convention the ' group plan on going on to New York on a sight seeing tour, then when they return (continued inside) ; ! Council Bluffs and Cheyenne, J to report everything ok. Chase Shurtz and family re- turned safe' and sound from their summer vacation, They j went to Idaho' to see Helen's two grandmothers, then to Butte, Montana where her j folks live; there they went through the Copper mines and to Anaconda to the big smelter, there they saw the tallest smoke stack in the world, then they went on to Canada visiting relatives, then home by way of Yellowstone park. Alter returning home Chase snent two days at the Glen Canyon Dam site with the State Survey crew; he reported the heat terrific. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Willis went to Cannonville Sunday for Sacrament meeting to hear Don Smith of Hcnrieville report his mission. Ernest Griffin, former resident, and now of Salt Lake City, two of his rsons, Harold and Gerald, also a grandson, Douglas Heaps, came here on business, and maybe a little pleasure. Mr. ,and Mrs. Kenneth (Ken) Griffin, their son Donald and his wife and family also were visitors here. Harve Bailty gathered his cattle and sold them, so, all he has here now is a home and some friends and relatives. You can tell it is July the first, the boys are all looking after their uranium claims, Lee Marchant is back, also Bill Decker of Texas, of course -Bill could have come for the fourth of July celebration. He knew there would be a rodeo and Bulls to ride. Then there arc more uninldentified characters with that uranium look. Mrs. Orabell Weigel, her two daughters Mary Katherln and Julieann and her son John all of Salt Lake City, came to visit Mrs. Weigel's parents, the Vern Lymans; Orabeland iMary K. went back leaving the two younger children for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blake of Pioche, Nevada were visitors at the Morris Shirts home and left their son Joey for awhile, Mrs. Blake is - Neta's sister Emma. The Ben Porters of Provo are here vis-,iting the Blake Robinsons. Kay Robinson, feed dealer, ivas here contacting merchants and prospective custom-ers. The Rafph Sipples of Id- ,iho are visiting at the Wallace Roundy home, Mrs. Sipple is their daughter, Wavey. Mrs! Virginia Bauer and family of Cedar City were visitors at the Daniel Wilcox home. Katherine Coleman came from Kanab where her husband is employed, to visit her folks the Lorin Griffins; Lorin is working on an invention called "Harl-Kari" for, weeds, he's had some difficulty watering his garden on account of them. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Griffin made a business trip to Richfield. Mrs. Colleen Griffin had a baby boy. Mrs. Phyllis Alvey had a-baby girl making her third daughter; Mrs. Bemeice Wilson had her third boy, it was suggested they trade but I heard they were going to keep their own. The Al Fosters and daughter of Tropic were Sunday dinner guests of the Billie Davis's; Al andBil-lie made a business trip to Kanab. (Bryant Porter wa laughing about people here always going on business trips, wondered if there were nono for pleasure.) A new 411 club1 was organized called the "Busy Fingers" The first meeting was held Friday at Geraldine Liston's, refreshments were served. Geraldine and Janet G. Spencer are the leaders; officers were elected as follows: Yul-on Porter, president; Pauline Griffin, vice, president; Rosalie Porter, secretary and treasurer; LaVee Alvey, reporter; Itenon Roundy, chorister, other members are Marlyn Griffin, Shirlene Hall, Alice Ann Christensen. This group will sew, the first article will- be pajamas., ' Clem Griffin came from Provo for two weeks vacation, his wife and family have been here some time, she is a "Tup-per-ware agent", and has real salesmanship; that consists in making people believe they can't get along without something they have never heard of before. The Stanley Haycocks took their son Douglas to Wayne County where he stayed to herd sheep for Laurence Dur-fcy. Smith Alvey went to Nevada to drive a water truck for Morrison-Knudsen con tractors. Mr. and Mrs. Ed ' Gerret and daughter were In town, she is the former Phyllis Porter, daughter of Dicey Porter. Mrs. Carolyn Porter was elected president of the Better Homes Club; June Liston, vice president, and Iona Alvey secretary. An item forgotten last week: Mr. and Mrs. Mel-vin Alvey took their two daughters to Panguitch and had their tonsils out, both girls are doing ok. James Mc-Inelly took his family fishing and his daughter Elma sunbathed her legs and feet until they raised up in big blisters, she is bandaged up and crippling around. Spencer; South ward, the time was taken up by the Sunday School Superintendency, Clarn Griffin, Hillo Boise and Stanley Haycock, and a song by EvaDean Hamilton, accompanied by hersister Ardena.
