Show The Word From Boulder ItV NKTHELLA GHIlTIN My faith In human nature received an uplift last week when n manuscript I had loaned to Samuel W. Taylor of Redwool City. California, was returned. A few yeais ago'l attempted to write about forty pages of Roul-ler history, early anecdotes, etc. A representative of tho Stato Historical Society borrow ed It from my mother and was kind enough to return five copies of the writing to her. Since that time we have loaned and thereby lost four of the copies. Hut Mr. Taylor, who recently gathered material about this country for his magazine writing, not only returned a freshly typed and bound cop.- of my manuscript hut also sent me a opy of .Ms book Family Kingdom. In case you have not reu I this story, I recommend It a the very best "Mormon Story" I have ever read, and I believe 1 have read all the Important accounts of Mormondom by I'tah writers and a few by "out-tide" authors. Betides bavin the virtues of authenticity and excellent writing-, Family King dom Is sheer entertainment Horn start to finish. And it lees the reader with an appreciation of the greatness, and tome of tlu weakneet.es, of human beings. The first of the Democr-it1'' candidate of the county to visit lloulder, I belee, was Ar thur (i. Crosby, candidate for the office of County Sheriff. He was accompanied by his father-in-law, Wllford Itoe. With the suppoit of a man like Wllford, and with a father like John Crosby, the young man should have good prospects. More Important than candidate In tins year's election an lie two proposed amendments. I hope that a campaign will br waged In every town In the outlying counties or I'tah to get every eligible oter to tho poll to tote for the change In rcprr-icntatlon. Recause of the oppo-rltlon In the populous center and the Influence of powerful newspapers, the effort to mak the change will not likely succeed, but a heavy vote from all the sparsely settled counties might Just get the amendment passed. Anyway, It would let neryone know that we arc aware of the injustice wo suffer. Arguments to the contrary notwithstanding, the southern counties of I'tah are In the aiiie relation to the central and northern counties as the western states of the union have leen to the populous eastern estates. Had It not been that In the PS. senate, regions, no' Just population, were represented and were thus given power lo secure favorable legislation for their development, the West would, today be only what Dan le We-bster said It was. a bar i en wusteland. Southern I'tah today Is on the brink of great development. Wo need favorabl" leglslatureM.et us vote-tn streng then our representation In the legislature. As for the amendment thai concerns the colleges, I shall ote against It. So far as Weber colle-ge Is concerned, th change seenu ridiculous In view of Ogden'f great non-Mormon population. Carbon probably needs a Junior college espe-clal y since the eastern part of the state Is now developing rapidly. Ft. George might well get alons without a Junior college because of the proximity of the excel-lent school at Cedar City, but It should be determined as a sep- a rule Issue, not combined with the others, After church today. Instead ot the usual small talk, we women discussed the shocking cas eif He iirwentatlve Strlngfellow. The only happy thought expressed about the sorry mess wm that it probably would clear the wny for the election of our good friend Walter Granger, the legislature tried and true. Mr. and Mrs. Albert GledhlP. of Proo, former residents of Houlder. are (vlsltlng friends and relatives here. Mrs. Gtedhlll was Jennie Haws, who as a child came here with her par ents among the first settlers. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Alvey of Escalante are lulling at the Cecil Alvey home where Mrs. Alvey Is caring for her daughter Alice, who Is recoverln fiom her recent Illness. Threrhlng of grain was completed today says Kirk Lyman, who operate the thresher. Mr Lyman sas that because of drouth and other factors, tho crop this year was Utile more than half Its usual tlze.
