Show New Uranium Claim Rules Set By AEC Announcement was made by the Atomic Energy Commlslon of procedures for granting uranium mining leases on tracts staked as mining claims subse- , quent to Dec. 31, 1952 and Prior to Feb. 10, 1983 on lands affected by the Mineral Leasing Act 4 of 1920. SI, 1032, will be validated by relocating and filing under the provisions of the Public Law. Between Jan. 1, 10.13 and Feb. O, 1034, Indus Ire. there was no method by which uranium prospectors could obtain Uie right to mine, uranium ores from lands affected by the Mineral Leasing Act of 1020. With publication on Feb. 10, 1034 of Domestic Uranium Program Circular 7, procedures were 'Ktabllshed by which uranium miners could obtain rights to mine uranium on affected lands. Despite the absence of machinery by which to acquire rights, uranium miners and prospectors proceceded to locate ground in the period between the effective dstes of Public Law 250 and Or- " cular 7, Lands were located un- der the general mining laws with ' the hope that the situation would Bfc4rH be resolved by giving locators the right to mine. Circular 7 is designed not only to grant the right to mine uranium ores to miners who locate In the future, but also to those who staked claims during the 13 month period during which they could neither locate under the mining laws, nor obtain a lease. With respect to lands staked In this erlod, tho (VxnmUslon IiSm established tho following procedures: Persons locating uranium mining claims on lands affected by Uie Mineral Leasing Act wherein the claims were staked between Jan. 1, 1033 ami Feb. O, 1031 muM file with the Commission an application for uranium mining leano under the provisions of Circular 7 on or before May 81, 1034. The Commission will be guided by the date of the original location of such mining claims In determining priority of interest for issusnce of a uranium mining lease provided that a lease application under the provisions of Circular 7 Is received by the Commission on or before May 31. 1954. In eases where uranium mining claims have been located on lands affected by the Mineral Leasing Act and the locations have been made between Jan, 1, 1953 and Feb. 9, 1954 and which land has subsequently been withdrawn for use of the AEC, leases are not available under Circular 7. Consideration will beglv n to lease applications to make such land available for uranium mining provided a claim was located and recorded prior to the date when the AEC withdrawal becr.me effective.
