Show U Us As A C CATALOG IS 13 OFF THE PRESS school year tear beginning on september gep 1 i 21 important changes in entrance and graduation requirements announced the 1923 24 catalog of the utah agricultural ri college Is just off the press and is ready for distribution according to ah announcement just made by professor D E robin robinson son editor of the publication copies of the catalod are being sent to all high school graduates in utah to colleges universities and libraries throughout the united states and to a mailing list ot of several hundreds made up 0 ot f requests tor for the hook book the 1923 21 24 school year will open with registration tor for old and new students on Mon daly september 24 according to the catalog the following new faculty members member a are listed in the catalog carrie cast castle le dozler dozier comes from the faculty of the university of california to become dean of the school of homo home economics and professor of foods and dietetics vincil carey coulter A M will be professor of english and acting head lead the department professor coulter comes from tile the presidency of sioux falls college to the U A C charles H merchant M S will be acting professor of farm management and agricultural economics professor merchant Is a graduate of cornell university and comes to utah from the faculty of that institution other new appointments announced by the catalog are minton E wilson first lieutenant quartermaster corps to be assistant professor of military science and tactics edith bowen to tie be assistant professor of military science and tae tac ties bics edith bowen to be assistant professor of education and psychology faculty members returning from leaves of absence are as follows L M winsor associate professor of irrigation and drainage N E Edel tsen assistant professor of physics george dewey clyde assistant professor of irrigation and drainage and ray J Be cratt assistant professor of ranle range management the catalog shows an active faculty list of eighty seven members of these sixteen have degrees of doctor of philosophy and aad thirty six hold masters degrees the catalog announces several important changes in entrance and graduation requirements briefly summarized mari zed these are as follows 1 graduates ot of accredited hl high 1 h schools may enter the college but a all I candidates for degrees must present as par part t of their high school work the following units or their equivalent english 3 units algebra 1 unit geo dmetry or equivalent mathematics one unit social science one unit natural science requiring laboratory work one unit 2 upon the completion of two years of carefully selected work at the college the student will be granted a junior college certificate and this certificate Is a prerequisite to entrance to senior college courses and to the bachelors degree 3 A student may be ranked as conditional dit ional freshman provided he be is deficient in not more than one unit of high school work 4 students who enter the vocational course must be nineteen years old or over another change of the 1923 24 catalog over previous issues Is a regrouping of the departments in order to emphasize the different fields of education covered by the college the catalog lists fifty five departments of instruction and eight hundred twenty eight courses in the following schools agriculture engineering home economics mechanic arts commerce and business administration and basic arts and science A summary of attendance in the catalog shows that the college had a total residence enrollment last year of 1732 while registration in corres pon dence and extension courses and in short courses and conventions brings the total enrollment up to ot of the 1732 students in residence 93 were in the graduate school the cat 1 alog shows that nine were graduated last commencement with masters degrees and that one hundred thirteen received the degree of bachelor ot of science |
