I Our nttention has recently been called to the necssity of HI a supply of pure water for our rapidly growing town. After mM careful consideration we are of the opinion that the time is now HI ripe and within the reach of the municipality to own and con- H trol its own water works system and supply to our citizens H an abundance of pure water. The Legislature hns wisely provided that towns may bond HI for the purpose of obtaining water for its inhabitants and we .H believe a leasable plan can be worked out at a nominal fust cost Hj and the maintenance and operating reduced to a minimum. The H plan that has been suggested to us is as follows: HI A system of three tanks or cisterns could be built on the hill at an elevation of about ioo to 150 feel above the Sngar Company's canal. The first of these( tanks or cisterns to be H used for settling the mud and silt, the second for filtering the H water and the third for a supply and distribution reservoir. A H main supply pipe could be attached to the reservoir to convey H the waier to the town where all existing lines that are now attacted H to the Sugar Company's 24 inch pipe line could be detached and Hjl attached to the line from the reservoir and thus give a good head of water for domestic use, sprinkling lawns, watering small gardens H and fighting fires the latter being among the most important as H the town is sadly in need of some protection against conflagration. H Water could be supplied from the canal by means of an Hi electric motor and pump and electricity thus needed could be obtainedat a reasonable cost. Hi An analysis has been made of the water from the canal H which shows it to be about the purest water in the state, after Hi Alteration, as above suggested. H The revenue to be obtained from water rentals we believe HH would be ample to pay all expenses of operation, maintenance, interest on bonds and provide a sinking fund to pay off the bonds when due. A careful estimate phices the income from the rentnls Hh at about $1,800 per year. Now let us get together and work out this most important HI utility for the good health and advancement of our common Hh interests. Hi t J " "I NOTICE.
