Two men lost their their 1 tores and the fato of thirteen others Is unknown as a result of the burning of the -steamer Clarion near Point Polee in Lake Erie, early Thursday, Six members of tho crow were taken tak-en from tho Clarion by tho steamer L. C. Hanna and Drother. Those Bay all attempted to leave tho Clarion as soon ns It was discovered she could not bo saved. Captain E. J. Boll of Ogdensburg, N. Y., and twelve other mombcrs of tho crew took to tho life boats. Survivors say one of tho crew fell overboard when attempting to enter tho life boat, but was rescued by thoso in the boat. The mato was frozen to death. A vain effort wob made by tho six survivors sur-vivors to enter another life boat. |
