Show Need of More School Room. The enrollment In tb Garland public school this year reached over 140 pupil. They arc graded Into ulno classes beginners be-ginners and the regular eight grudes. The size of the classes and rooms avail-uble avail-uble made It necessary, the principal Informs In-forms us, to separate tho fifth grnde Into two classes, making ten rlnssos In all for tho tbrco teacher. The teacher having the three lowest grades lms had 51 pupils unrolled, tho threo Intermediate grades number over 53 pupils and the principal princi-pal has the four upper grades of forty pupils. Even th o s e who have eyes and see not would scarcely need un extended explanation to know that under such conditions, it Is u physl-cal physl-cal luiposhlblity for our school to bo classed as clUclent in its work. With less qualified instructors It is Impossible to understand how tho children would bo able to advance from grudo to grade nt Ml. MO pupils is no small number for (4) teachers, and when we consider that there are now in Garland perhaps 80 or M children over four years of ago and under six, tho nocesslty of more school room U very apparent. Wo wonder If UiU matter has ever been put In Its pro-pur pro-pur light before t'o members of the Hoard of Education by those whose place it is to do no, with the object in view of Inducing them to build more school room hero for the coming school year. If not J the Globe desires to Invito tlielrcouslder- Htlon. HIGH SCHOOL. ' This end Of tho county needs a good high nchnol. There aru more than ? enough graduates from thU part to tnako , n good 1st year high school clans. There nrr. wo belelvo, enough pupils away to other high schools who would gladly stay at homo and attend k 2nd year high school class. This would miiko no excellent excel-lent beginning. Tlwro Is no reason why this county shouldbe behind in hlghschool woik Why, therefore, hhould not the liourd of Education consider theau urgent wants? If they should decide to start a high school for the benefit of tho students stu-dents in this end of tho county, Garhind has this to offer as an inducement to gel it located burn a water nyMeni, clectrif lights, i sower system piojcotcd, good prospect for a free public library, n good alto for a school building and a wldu awako progressive community of citizens. Taking all Into consideration, there Is no reason why Garland should not have a modern, eight room public school building. ThU would provide for five rooms of public school and two for high school. The other room could bo left """ unfinished until needed, which would bo not more than two years hence. |
