Under tho recent net of congress making appropriations for tho postal servlco for tho fiscal year Uio postmastor general may fix the salaries of carriors in tho rural do-llvory do-llvory Bervlco nt n rate not exceeding $900 per annum nftor July 1, 1907. Tho highest rato now pnld under tho existing law Is $720. Tho readjustment of salaries under tho now law has been fully determined, determin-ed, but It Is proposed to allow tho maximum rntc, $900, to nil carriors on routes 24 or moro miles In length. This will glvo approximately 22,800 or about CO por cent of tho carriers an advance In salary of $180 per annum. an-num. A Biibstantlnl Incrcaso In pay for other carriors Is contemplated, but tho chief bcnoflcinrlcs of tho now law wilt bo those serving tho longest routes, on whom tho greater hardships hard-ships of tho sorvlco fnll. Carriers on tho shorter routes, ranging from 12 to 14 and from 15 to 1C miles In length, now receive $504 nnd $540 per annum, respectively, being proportionally propor-tionally better pnld than carriors on routes of 20 or moro miles.
