It was not long, howover, beforo a clover dotectlvo becamo acquainted with tho fact that ono of the clerks who might havo had access to tho bundle of bills was acquainted ac-quainted with a professional gamblor of shady antecedents. That discovery solved tho problem. A llttlo patient watching resulted In catching tho gambler with tho stolen notes, and the rest wns easy. Tho clerk was arrested, ar-rested, and, whilo In confinement, was given to understand that ho was betrayed, be-trayed, whereupon ho confessed tho robbery, which was accomplished by shoving the packago of notes, all, of large denominations, Into a position where they could bo "snaked up" with a cane provided with a hook. |
