It was first erected U Now Salem, and was occupied by Lincoln as a store from 1832 until 1835. In it the futuro president studied stud-ied lnw and mastered tho intricacies 3f mnthematlea without a teacher; and whllo ho occupied It ho also laid out the City of Petersburg and many near by towns. Robert nishop, of this city, bought tho structure In 1830 and moved It here. Lincoln himself assisting assist-ing in tho operation. It was used for n gunshop for somo time. Subsequently, Subsequent-ly, when Mr. Bishop erected his brick structure, tho "Lincoln store" was jH i pushed to tho renr. Hellc hunters hnd BAl carried off much of tho old building, HBl and n storm wrecked tho roof, bo that Its demolition becatno necessary. 9Bl |
