Show HIGH WATER MARK by barclay L severna many years ago I 1 lived in a small town by which flowed a river As boys we learned to swim early in life we preferred to go in bathing at high water the water being at a standstill at that period it was the same old story ot of laziness born in human beings it was much better for us when we had a swift tide we had to work harder to swim against it giving us a better development of muscle at the time of life when men should be full of 0 pep that same lazy streak shows itself and men very often burl in fr themselves the disposition to be contented at standing still or drifting down stream and the more that feeling is the less apt one is ia to try bucking the tide I 1 have met men who were very boastful they were floating with the tide everything was coming their way but when the tide changes and things start to go wrong because they had never been compelled to fight their way against the current they were weak and start drifting backwards and in many cases make an absolute failure in life tor for lack of the proper amount of stamina the real successful roan man is he who wins out against all odds regardless of what they may be men alen who take time to look after their physical condition kee a r reserve force of nervous energy in store supplying up plying their brain with the natural food to keep it active and responsive are fighters and on the lookout lor for obstacles that man is a credit to himself to his business associates to his family and the community at large and is deserving of all that he may accomplish successful men are looked up to those who probe prove failures are pitied Ones ones pride should spur him on to keep out of the class requiring pity the weakling looks for pity but in many cases is to blame tor for his condition cultivate a happy smile took look on the bright side of life turna deaf ear to trouble push up stream against the current and every stroke will give you strength you will soon learn to smile at the fellow floating down the other way you will pie im able to told hold your head higher when you enter your h home ome look steadier into the other mans eye and gain the respect that the weakling will envy |
