Show DEVILS OATE UNDER investigation commissioners brigham wright john J craner and ami county engineer K N C wright held a meeting with state engineer R E caldwell at his office on oil friday ot of last week at which the condition of the devils gate reservoir was discussed at length engineer A K chatfield who designed and constructed ted the dam was also present and participated in the discussion the local county officials frankly told the state engineer that tile the people of 0 this community are mighty nervous over the situation because of the unfinished condition ot of the dam and the tremendous depth ot of snow which has fallen during the winter the danger from spring floods never was greater and with the added danger from an overflow or washout of the dam there la Is every reason tor for nervousness ness on oil the part of 0 the people here it was finally agreed by all present that as a precautionary measure the owners of the project must place a force of 0 workmen on the job as soon as they can go over the mountain tor for the purpose ot of cleaning out alie the spillway and making it deeper and wider thus providing added facilities tor for carrying off the water as it flows into the reservoir from the snowa hed then during the coming summer the dam must be constructed at least two feet higher and the caved in tunnel must be repaired so that the afie head gates can call bo be opened and the water permitted to flow out of the channel designed tor for that purpose there is no danger under present weather conditions but when warm weather comes and the snow begins to melt there will be a tremendous amount of 0 water turned loose it if there should come a warm rain the situation would be greatly aggravated |
