it Is a nice quiet town of about two I 1 hundred thousand inhabitants thol the main center ot of the midland railway ia 18 located here about men arel are employed in its shops the place is ia noted for or its large manufacturing establishments A great many ot of the people are employed in making lace linen and textiles the crown china made here in derby is reputed to be the best in the world tailoring is a big industry here and during the war the british government obtained thousands of uniforms here it ts Is the home ot of the rolls holls royce auto famous both in europe and america the rolls royce people hero here made the engine tor for the captain hawker crossed the atlantic with A party ot of us went through our local bakery the other day it bakes loaves a day besides all the cakes and pastries it can call sell some bakery it sure has got mothers bread mixer cheated the cooperative idea Is 13 taking it EL big hold on british industry and certainly seems to be giving satisfaction Batis this place also has the distinction ot of having more churches and chapels than any other town in england proportionate onate to its population but I 1 regret to say that the churches like some ot of the industries and many of the people are quite idle these people doret dont want rant religion to use their own expression fed up with it it has been said you can lead a horse to water but you cant make ahlm drink I 1 have found you have got to have a horse broke to lead it if youre going to get anywhere the ministers here bere broken these english people to lead and when they pass a public house many ot of them halt not all the people are that way I 1 am glad that I 1 can say I 1 have met many very mice elce people since cor coming herc herche We are teaching them the gospel in their homes in cottage and hall meetings and ly by tr trading actIng from door to door in the spring we win will stop preaching on the street our reception may be anything aBy thing
