building and other improvements on the north rim of the grand canyon of the colorado river in the grand canyon national park as are arc necessary 1 to provide proper access by by automobile to the points along said north rim from which the beauties and wonders of the said grand canyon can best be se seen C n and appreciated 1 and that copies of the resolution be transmitted telegraph to the senators and representatives in congress from the Sta state teof of utah mr waters hasfurther has further to say regarding the memorial the following one great drawback to the development of fhe tourist trade in southern utah at present is the fact that grand ganyou ganyon one of the most widely advertised and appreciated of natures cos wonders cannot be properly seen by automobile tourists approaching from the north the amly y access a aa io atie t can canyon from the north is at bright angel point from which a very restricted strict ed view of the canyon is available the finest views of the canyon are arc to be had bad on the north jt at can be seen now only aher after arduous trips on horseback which are beyond the strength and ability of the average automobile tourist consequently many visitors leave the north rim at present disappointed and disgusted at having made so long a journey only to find that the lack of a little road at the end has prevented their properly seeing the grand canyon yesterday these hese memorials were drafted in ill our office through the assistance of of mr thomas sevy of panguitch who is keenly alive to the financial possibilities of a properly developed tourist traffic in southern utah the measures received prompt action both in the senate by senator tebbs of panguitch and hirche of hurricane speaker arranged with representative rowan of antimony to introduce the measure in the house where it was promptly ratified any improvements made on the north rim of the grand canyon must be under appropriations made by the federal government in as much as this territory is within the confines of the grand canyon national park the whole interest of the state of arizona and of i the santa fe railway are towards preventing enting tourist travel to the north rim at present some 80 tourists per per year visit the south of the grand canyon and their expenditures tures while so doing are ard of vast benefit to arizona and the santa fe railway rail vay it its is to their financial advantage to block as long as possible the improvements of the north rim which would benefit utah measures for road improvement provement pro nent on the north rim have been repeatedly rep blocked in con gress and I 1 believe it is we show our senators and depre representatives senta at congress that we are wide awake to this situation and insist upon its correction that any remedy may be anticipated to this end I 1 believe it would be well if similar resolutions were forwarded to our representatives at washington by our bur commercial clubs and prominent citizens in southern utah while it is improbable we will get an appropriation at this session of congress it is not too early to convince i our washington dale delegates gates of our istance insistence ins that these roads on the north rim rebuilt be built as soon as possible 1 1 |
