Show Board of Education. A t last evening's session of the board of education all members were present. After opening exercises and the presentation pre-sentation of a report by the finance committee setting forth the fact that the treasurers' report presented at last meeting had been carefully audited and iound correct, the same committee reported re-ported on the report of the finance committee of the previom board which report was to the effect that the liqua-dation liqua-dation by the late retiring board of debts incurred by the preceding board bad been $5,455,30; that there still remains re-mains unpaid of these old debts, notes at the 'Trovo Commercial & Savings Bank aggregating $3,500, with interest at 10 per cent, for three q larters of a year ; that the resources of the schools irom the various tax funds for the next six months is estimated at $8,119.39, nd the expense of running the schools for fifteen weeks and incidental expense tor the entire six months, will be $5,-084,97, $5,-084,97, leaving an estimated balance on hand July 1st, 1895, of $3,034 42, and recommending that $1,500 be paid the bank on the indebtedness, with accrued ac-crued interesting. Stating that thev had carefully scrutinized and considered con-sidered the Bame and recommnded that the same be accepted and placed on file and that the recommendation contained con-tained therein be adopted, Both reports were adopted, The sum of $1702,50 was appropriated, appropri-ated, on motion of Trustee John, out of the treasury with which to pav note of $1500.00 with accrued interest, held by the Provo Commercial & Savings bank. Bills bv Smoot& Spafford, $30 35 for coal and J. II. Boshard $5.70 for hauling haul-ing same were allowed. The president of the board, was on motion of McEwan, made ex-officio member of all committees. James Hardy resigned as janitor of the Franklin school and his wife, Mrs. James Hardy, was appointed to fill the vacancy at the same salary as heretofore hereto-fore paid. On motion of McEwan the tuition fees of pupils residine out3ide of Provo were reduced $1.00 all round so that now the fees are: For 1st, 2nd, 3d and 4th gradeB, $2 00; for 5th and 6th grades, $3 00; for 7th and 8th grades, $4.00. . Some departments ot the city echools are overcrowded and further applications applica-tions for admission are numerous. The matter of receiving these applicants and assigning them to the echools where they can be better handled, was on motion of McEwan, referred to Su-cerintendent Su-cerintendent Rawlings. The committee on supplies, were, on motion of McEwan, authorized to furnish the schools with needed music charts. The matter of furnishing city water at the Timpanogas and Mountain schools wa3, on motion of John, re ferred to the committee on sites and buildings. The matter of heating capacity of the schools and the probable necessity ot additional school room was, on motion mo-tion of Glazier, refeired to the committee commit-tee on sites and buihiinzs. The bond of $10,000.00 of Treasurer Twelves, with James E. Daniels and Reed Smoot as sureties, was presented arad accepted, and board adjourned. |
