Show A little incident transpired in the city council last evening that is not Eet forth in the report of the proceeding publiphed elsewhere in this issue of The Dispatch. An attempt was made to railroad a claim for $29.75 through that ought not to be paid. The claim was presented by W. K, Farrer, as deputy watermaster. Watei master Allred had refused to o. k. the bill. That mattered not, however; the motion mo-tion to allow the bi-11 was already made and Becondtd, and the chair was putting the question before Joe. Mac, who was watching the claims, got on to his feet to object. He called the council's attention to the fact that the bill was not o. k'd. and in the discussion that ensued it developed that some months ago it was found that the service of a d puty water master were not needed and they were dispensed with. Watermaster Allred left the city for a t mi, and during that time Mr. Farrer, vho had been bis deputy, did the work and drew pav for it under the name of Mr. Allred. Recently Mr. Allied returned and informed in-formed his deputy that there was ro longer any work for him. Farrer refused re-fused to quit. The bill referred to herein was or time since Allred's return, re-turn, and just in the nick of time it was prevented from being railroaded through the council. Ed. Meters was fined $5.00 last evening eve-ning for being drunk the evening before. be-fore. He paid tbe fine. Immediately ttiereafter he was rearrested on a charge of passing counterfeit coin.
