An enthusiastic mass meeting was held in the courthouse last night, at which steps were taken for a fitting celebration of the Fourth. The meeting having been called to order. Judge Jones was elected chairman chair-man and J. M. Jensen secretary. Judge Jones stated that the object of the meeting was to take into consideration con-sideration whether Provo celebrates or not. The speaker was decidedly in favor of a huge celebration, and exhorted ex-horted the assemblage to do all that lay in their power to make July 4th a red-letter day for Proo, a day which our children, and our children's children, child-ren, would look back to with pride at the patriotism "displayed by their fore- fathers. '"We have met for this purpose, pur-pose, fellowT citizens," continued the speaker, "and I hope you will all join in making the coming Fourth a day long to be remembered in Provo. Our patriotism, our talents, our all, should be brought into requisition in celebrating cele-brating the birthday of this, the greatest great-est nation on the earth. Hon. Wm. II. King: "I always feel it a pleasure to attend a meeting of this kind, and to help what little I can in celebrating our nation's birthday. birth-day. 1 always think of the pleasures with which all loyal citizens look forward for-ward to the coming of Independence Day. Of all days in the year this to me is the most important. When we look back and reflect upon the blood that was shed in order to establish this nation, we feel within our heart that this birthday of freedom and the triumph of right over might should be fittingly celebrated. Some of the best blood that ever flowed in human veins was shed in this battle-of freedom; in fact it can be said that the Constitution, Constitu-tion, the instrument which is dearer to every American citizen than his own life, was written in letters of blood. Then should we not commemorate commemo-rate this birthday of our nation? I say yes, by all means let us celebrate it in a manner becoming American citizens. All party feelings should be thrown aside on this day and all meet on the broad plane of freemen. Let Provo be to the front in this movement, move-ment, as she is in all other movements; move-ments; let her show to the nation that she is true and loyal and that her citizens citi-zens love and revere American liberty. 1 therefore move that we, the citizens of Provo, have a grand celebration on Jnlv 4th " The motion was put and carried.
