Show PROCTOR ACADEMITES Rave an Outing at the Lake Resort. Zeigler and Taggart Save Two Young Ladies From a Watery Crave. Professor Merrill and his staff of teachers arranged a delightful outing for the students and their parents and friends. About 9 o'clock yesterday morning the motor left the Bank corner corn-er pulling two cars heavily loaded with pleasure seekers, old and young. Arriving at the Lake Resort, the forenoon fore-noon was spent in boating, bathing, swinging, and music, the children enjoying en-joying it immensely. About noon tables were spread in the large pavil-lion pavil-lion and all the excursionists enjoyed a sumptuous repast. After dinner a sail on the "Floreuce" was proposed, and about a hundred people embarked and spent an enjoyable time. The male quartette, consls ing of Messrs. Bee, Alspach, Woods and Merrill, enlivened en-livened the trip With some Very tine selections, se-lections, which were highly appreciated appreci-ated by the passengers. The steamer headed for the opposite shore, but veered north making a circuit of about 15 miles. Before the "Florence" departed on her trip around the rake, four members mem-bers of the pleasure party decided that they would hire a row boat and have a spin around the lake. The party consisted of Miss Ollie Gash, Miss Beck, Mr. D. Taggart and Mr. W. E. Zeigler. During the trip, and when about one hundred yards from the shore, one of the party attempted to change position in the boat, and the result was that the boat capsized. Miss Beck was thrown away off on one side, and the two gentlemen were clear of the wreck, while Miss Gash went out of sight clear in under the boat. Mr. Zeigler promptly dived after the lady, and succeeded in bringing her to the surface. Miss Beck had se cured a hold on the bottom of the capsized cap-sized craft, and Mr. Taggart had secured se-cured a likegiip. Through some movement move-ment on the part of one .of the party the boat again sank, and Miss Gash caught Mr. Zeigler around the body, bringing him down to the bottom of the lake. Mr. Taggart promptly dived after the couple and seized Miss Gash by the hair, bringing her to the surface. sur-face. Mr. A. E. Buckler, who happened hap-pened to be rowing in the neighborhood, neighbor-hood, came to the rescue, and succeeded suc-ceeded in getting the whole party aboard his boat. Herbert Slade, the 'Maori," who is training at the resort, rowed up at this time and towed the capsized boat ashore. The rescued party desire to return their thanks to Mr. Buckler, and think that, but for his timely intervention, a calamity might have occurred. The ladies were taken to a house near by and comfortably com-fortably cared for. With the exception excep-tion of the accideut, the day was spent in enjoyment that pleased all, the party returning about 6 o'clock. Great praise is due Prof. Merrill and the teachers of the Proctor Academy for providing the excursion and for so ably managing it. |
