The following petition has been circulated cir-culated among the saloon-keepers of this city, and is self explanatory. Some of the boys were rather jubilant oyer it on Thursday night last and fairly "made Rome howl," which nearly ended in a haul for the city treasury. The petition reads as follows: To the Honorable Mayor and City Council Coun-cil of Provo (Uty,Utali county, Utah Territory. Whereas, We, the undersigned, are licensed retail liquor dealers in the city of Provo, and have for a long time past paid a license in the sum of $1,200 per annum for the privilege of carrying on said business; and, Whereas, While we have considered con-sidered said license of Sl.liOO exorbitant, exorbi-tant, we have yet been willing to pay the same, and have paid it, and intend in-tend so to continue to pay it, until by legislation of your honorable body it is deemed advisable to reduce said license li-cense to a reasonable sum. While in the payment of said licenses and in pursuance of our business, we have met with many difficulties which to us have been a source of loss, and perhaps a loss to the city, we desire now through our attorney, A. G. THrd: We are compelled under the ordinances of this city to fe ?t 12 o'clock midnight each mlit.
