Show Pioneer Day at Pleasant Grove PLEASANT GROVE July 25The Twentyfourth was celebrated here yes terday in grand style The street parade = par-ade was the neat the town ever produced > pro-duced the Pioneers and Mormon Battalion Bat-talion were represented by five living members viz John Brown Henson Walker John 6 Gleason pioneers Samuel White and George S Clark battalion men All the trades societies soci-eties and associations were well represented repre-sented A N Iverson had the most unique outfit in all the pageant and it created a fountain of amusement The rig consisted con-sisted of an old wagon drawn by one horse with the driver hitched beside to assist the worn out animal The whole thing had the appearance of having mon ham times The martial and brass bands were out and added much to enliven the day Lewis P Lund Esq with his aids acted as marshals and they did their parts well in preserving 9crder and keeping the huge procession in fine shape The pageat paraded the principal streets countermarching making a magnificent show Everybody it seemed had turned out to witness the movements the throne assembled at Sundbergs grove Miss LjporaDriggarepresented Utah With two maid of honor Misses Fern J I Adamson and Blanche West Miss Drigge drove her own team and the car of state made u fine appearance At the grove the assembly was called to order by the madhal of the day Lewis P Lund Hon John S Gleaeon pioneer made the opening speech recounting re-counting the ardiuous journey to this country etc George S Clark battalion battal-ion man spoke and gave an account of their trip to the Pacific coast etc Bishop T K Thorne also addressed the assemblvfollowed by Jamea 1Thorne JJHayes original l address B W Driggs John E Dalley and John Brown pioneer Songs and music were interspersed during the proceedings proceed-ings and everything seemed to work off pleasantly One fine attraction of the day was the company of 48 young ladies and gentlemen on horse back The ladies were dressed in white or cream colored habits No accidents or other unpleasant unpleas-ant thing happened to mar the enjoyment enjoy-ment of the day Bishop lamos Cobley acted as chap lain l Committee of arrangements Henson Walker Charles Phelps J J Hayes S S White and B W Driggs A vote of thanks was tendered those having the affair in charge for the able manner the arrangements were carried out Thus ended theTwentyfourth of July 1894 |
