members hers ot of the stake presidency elder wm wim A noble ot of the logan temple bishop thomas wheatley of honeyville iville and bishop joseph hubbard of willard at the afternoon atter noon session which was a general conference session the speakers were president S norman lee elder wm J facer of the high council patriarch james olsen bishop IL 11 W Valen valentine tinel president sarah 11 horsley of the stake primary board and president lewis da dan ii jones ot of the malad stake sla ke presidency the remarks were all an in the nature ot of reports and testimony bc bearing aring and very interesting on sunday morning there were sixteen hundred ninety seven people in the tabernacle all the sunday school children ot of the stake being invited to participate in the exercises the the gospel teaches mankind to serve erve others and thereby prepare the servant tor for eternal life in the presence I 1 of 0 the lord he told a beautiful story to illustrate the point that deeds count far more than words or professions elder roberts was the con eluding speaker and addressed himself to the subject of 0 litter day saint hymns 1 he le read the hymn A poor wayfaring man of 0 grief and told of 0 its sacred connection with mormon history this 1 althe hymn which the prophet joseph smith asked john taylor to sing just a few moments before he was martyred marty red in dar carthage thage jail elder roberts Ilo borts entered ills his protest against the elimination of some ot of those sacred hymns from the new editions of the L D S hymn book which Is being printed at the sunday afternoon services the tabernacle choir under the direction of R david mann rendered a beautiful musical program which greatly enhanced the spirit of the occasion and added to the enjoyment of authorities all of whom were unanimously sustained shirley C horsley II was released as stake sunday school chorister and kenneth C wright was sustained in his stead joseph joeph A west was released as a member ol of the high council and wm J facer was sustained s i unstained usta ined to fill the vacancy thus created elder B H roberts was the first speaker and began by commenting upon the general report of the stake with particular cular reference to the at upon sacrament meet meetings ings ile he declared that he rather rejoiced in the tact fact that the efforts of 0 the bishops to create interest in sacrament meeting by alv i ing special programs pra grams had proven a failure for the sacrament is such a beautiful ordinance that it needs no embellishments in to get the people to come out and partake of the emblems of the broken and spilled blood ot of the redeemer of the world the speaker paid said lie he would wage a campaign calling the people to tence in a most wonderful ni manner dianner the speaker then proceeded to annaly annalize ze the blessing on the bread taking it phrase by phrase and tor one hour he discoursed in fit a most profound manner upon the obligation which the sacrament entails and the blessings that come from it the point made was that the partaking of the sacrament is one of the sublime st privileges that is offered to man and elder roberts declared that it if eighty per cent of the people stayed at home and refused to come to the feast of the lords supper and renew their conven ants and rec receive eie the promised blessings he would say to stay at home and be dammed to you lie he pointed out that the communion ion haat baat is held with the throne ot of grace race thru the partaking ot of the sacrament ot of the lords supper Is ot of such a macrea sacred and holy character that it Is enough in and nd of itself itsell to makeup make up a profitable service of worship and he called upon the people to repent of 0 their sin in this respect and have greater appreciation of t this Is privilege and manliest manifest their apy appreciation by attending the sacrament ser service ilce the only se service which the lord has commanded the saints to faithfully observe elder roberts held the great audience in rapt attention as he presen presented teJ the picture of the crucified redeemer and what that service means to the human family the discourse was characterized by the matchless eloquence of 0 which elder robe roberts arts is a past master and his words made a deep impression upon his hearers miss kemp sang the solo entitled ever at rest which very beautifully complemented the remarks of the si speaker eaker elder ivins in a few words bore a testimony that was a veritable benediction upon the splendid
