Show S.S. School News PAGE B2 Summit County News SEPTEMBER 26, 2008 “Swing for Life - Dig Deep For Breast Cancer” Results The Tower of Flour in Fourth Grade Mr. Dean Evans, new counselor at South Summit Elementary helped fourth grade students identify life skill behaviors that “kept their tower tall.” The Character Pillar the students are working on for September is Responsibility. Mr. Evans placed a dime on top of the flour tower and asked students to identify behaviors that might chip away at their tower of character. Students identified behaviors such as cheating, lying, stealing, doing drugs and alcohol, smoking, bullying and many more. As each negative behavior was identified one student cut away at the flour tower. The students loved it when the tower collapsed because Emily Marchant had to retrieve the dime from the flour pile with her teeth. The South Summit girls volleyball team enjoyed an evening in pink as they dressed in pink tshirts, socks - and fans did too. The four classes had a competition in which they challenged them to see who in the class had the most dressed in pink to represent the colors for the Breast Cancer Research. The Senior class won with 46 - juniors followed with 35 - sophomores had 22 and freshman had 6. Bailee Sizemore won sec- ond Attendant in the Queen Contest. The Fryer Family did very well. K.C. won the steer wrestling and Shaneal placed ninth in barrel racing, and had an awesome pole run with a time on 20.8 this placed her second. So far this rodeo season the South Summit rodeo Team has had 12 athletes qualify for the state finals, many of these athletes have qualified in more than one event. Right now we have athletes in 9 of the 14 events as well. Way to go. Students wrote wonderful articles about the “Right Way to Ride a Bike.” Over 100 students wrote down their safety ideas and entered the contest. Mrs. Schumann’s first grade class even drew pictures showing the safest way to ride a bike. (With a helmet of course) South Summit Elementary is grateful for the partnership they have with the Kamas and Summit County Health Department.
