Jade won her preliminary heat on Friday, June 20th and advanced to the finals held on Saturday, June 21st in the SUU Grand Coliseum. With girls competing from all corners of the state, Jade ran an impressive 31.0 into a strong headwind to take 2nd place, winning the silver medal. Wearing Gunnison colors, Jade says she was proud to represent the city at the summer games, "It was special to be in a Gunnison uniform and compete against all these kids from different track clubs. I don't think they considered me a threat, until we ran, it was awesome." Jade who has been competing since she was tenyears-old, discovered she was a good runner by accident. Her dad, Carl Wimmer says, "A few years ago, Jade and I went for a jog together, and she ran me into the dirt! At age ten she entered her first race and ran a mile in under seven-minutes. That's when we knew God had blessed her with a talent for running." Earlier this year Jade won the Gunnison Valley 5k, corning in first amongst all the runners including adults. But her love is sprinting. "I love running fast," said Jade, and it shows having posted 7 victories in 10 races, along with This week's Heap of the Week goes to Belle Blackburn.
