Show Opinions Page 2 TlfrGunnison Valley Gazette I'm Just Saying... by JANIS SAURIC Some days I'm low on patience. I haven't exactly determined what makes the difference between me being ready to bite someone's head off or me being able to smile and deal kindly with those I encounter. It doesn't seem to depend on what I eat — so you can't blame it on the M & M's I sneak before breakfast or that I haven't drunk a glass of milk in weeks (unless ice cream counts), or even the bad fruit I may have consumed. The cherries didn't cause my impatience. It doesn't seem to matter if I went to bed early or slept late or could hardly sleep at all. I can be impatient no matter the sleep scenario. The phrase "patience is a virtue" simply means that the ability to wait for something or someone without being angry or upset is a good and valuable quality. This phrase has been traced back to William Lang- land in the year 1377 and it is also associated with the Latin saying "patience is the greatest virtue." Yeah, I know that, but what about those things that are driving me crazy? Today there are only four: The difference between the lines in a public venue of the men's and women's bathroom: Don't designers, builders, politicians, owners, architects, someone understand that if the facility holds 10,000 people there will be 9,000 women in line for the ladies bathroom? And the 400 men who need to go can be in and out almost simultaneously and no lines will ever form outside of the men's bathroom? Tip: build at least 5 times more women's bathrooms than you build men's. This seems to be to be common sense unless you like the idea of women needing to find a corner and a cup in case of emergency. We do want to see the second half! Why hasn't someone figured this out? I'm out of patience with lines at the women's bathroom door. Non-existent Customer Service: Really? I am supposed to be patient when the store clerk can see me standing right in front of her ready to check out but she can't seem to stop her conversation with the other three employees to even make the effort to start entering my purchases into the cash register so I can pay and be out of her hair. (Just by the length of that sentence, you can tell I'm frustrated!) I'm not asking for friendliness, for a greeting from her or even that she make eye contact with me. I certainly don't expect genuine customer service. I just want her to tell me how much I owe and let me be on my way. Really, I have no patience for this! If ever I find a store with a staff who treats me like a human being and a clerk who seems glad that I'm shopping there, believe me, they've got a loyal customer for life! The line of dirt that just can't be swept up: You know the small particles left when the broom and the dustpan meet and no matter how you try, the dirt just can't make it over the tiny space from the floor to the dustpan so the line lingers there. I call it persistent dirt. I have no patience with that. I usually end up just spreading it around with my foot on the otherwise clean floor. I'll try harder to get it next time, even though I know it will be as stubborn then as it is today. And finally, I don't mind much of reality TV, but really, I have NO patience for "Duck Dynasty." My husband has taken to recording it. Mostly he watches it while I am at work or after I've gone to bed. Please don't talk to me like Uncle Si Robertson is someone we know. I don't care what happens in West Monroe, Louisiana or how many millions of dollars can be made from duck calls! I can continue to work on patience...I'm just saying I have my limits!
