The plan is to construct an 8 foot high stone wall containing the laser-inscribed names of the valley's war veterans. The memorial will honor valley veterans starting with the Blackhawk War and will include all other wars including Iraq and Afghanistan. The World War II cannon in Gunnison Park will be part of the design, as well as flags representing the different branches of the armed services. It will also include a military or veteran themed sculpture. The veteran's are raffling a Christensen Arms 243 Winchester Carbon One Custom Bolt Action rifle, which has been generously donated by Christensen Arms. Tickets are 6 for $5 for $1 each. The drawing will be held during the Veterans Day program held at Gunnison Valley High School on Friday November 11 at 11 a.m. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets will be available for purchase this Friday and Saturday at Mistletoe Mall and every morning next week at GIC or by calling Mark Pickett at 528-7781. Please come out and be generous in supporting this great cause. The Veterans Memorial will be a great way to remember and pay tribute to our valley's veterans who have sacrificed so much. Phase One upgrades completed for Gunnison City water lines by GUNNI S ON MAYOR LORI NAY David Madsen Construction and Gunnison City crews worked through the night on Thursday, October 27th to connect a new water service line on Center Street. This 13" line is one of the main water lines to serve the city and represents Phase One of the city's master plan to upgrade its aging infrastructure. New 13" pipe, fittings and valves replaced the aging main delivery line made of Transite (a popular pipe material of the 70's) which had been found to be cracked and leaking water under Center Street. New fire hydrants and valves were installed along with the replacement of cast See WATER LINES, Page 2 Utah's internationally renowned Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company will celebrate the art of modern dance in Gunnison and other towns in Sanpete County during the week of October 31-November 4, 2011. Their full-length evening performance is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at 7 p.m. at Gunnison Valley High School. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. Founder Joan Woodbury plans to be in attendance. The prior evening, Tuesday, November 1, the dancers will present a parent-child dance workshop at Gunnison Valley Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. A great family evening, parents and their students will enjoy the opportunity to learn together the dance principles of time, space, shape, and motion, as well as how dance explores physical freedom and control. The suggested donation for this workshop is $5 for each parent/child pair. Thursday, November 3, is Snow College day for the Dance Company. The dancers will present a lecture/demonstration for the Convocation at 12:30 p.m., which is free and open to the public. They will also conduct master classes for the Dance Department in the 7 IT c@ift, and ctrictft aoutique morning and afternoon. Their visit is sponsored by the Casino Star Theatre Foundation, in collaboration with the Gunnison schools, the Convocation and Dance programs at Snow College. The foundation also received supporting funds from the OnStageUtah program of the Utah Department of Arts and Museums, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
