After a two year absence, owners of the Mayfield Merc, Lee Ann Oliver and Elisha McGill, have returned to take over the day to day operation of the store. Elisha, who has spent the last two years as the director of communications for the Grand and Little America Hotels, will be the store’s manager. “I’m excited to be back in Sanpete,” said Elisha. Not only will there be new management but the store’s name has been changed from the Mayfield Merc to Twelve Mile Market. According to Re-elect Lee Ann the name has been changed to signify a new beginning. The shelves are currently being restocked and filled with the new inventory. The gas pumps have been repaired and fuel is once again being sold. The market will be open seven days a week and will maintain regular business hours. The biggest change to the market will be the addition of a cafe. “Doug and Emmy’s Cafe,” which has been a landmark in Layton for the past twenty-five years, will move into the market by December. “Doug and Emmy’s” is being forced out of its current location by the state of Utah to make room for a new freeway on ramp. The state agreed to help relocate the cafe anywhere in the state and the owners chose Mayfield. “Doug and Emmy’s” has a full menu but is especially known for their breakfasts, particularly their scones and sweet rolls. Twelve Mile Market and Doug and Emmy’s promises to be a great addition to Mayfield and the Gunnison Valley. |
