Looking ahead by MARK HENLINE The new high school basketball season kicks off on Wednesday November 26 against the 3A North Sanpete Hawks. Second year Head Coach Jeremy Smith said he has high hopes for this season. “Our season looks bright, we’re really excited.” Coach Smith brought a new offensive scheme to Bulldog basketball last year called, “dribble, attack, motion.” The new offense is an up tempo style of play with more ball control. In dribble, attack, motion, there are lots of lay ups and lots of three point shots. According to Smith, “It’s fun for the players and a fun game to watch for the fans.” “Last year the team was just getting used to the new style of play but this year the boys are more comfortable with their roles,” said Smith. He also said that the boys are very unselfish and are getting on well as a team. Defense will also be uptempo with lots of traps and harassing the player with the ball. The team will have leadership and talent with the four returning seniors; Colton Lund, Carson Lund, Shawn Gubeli and Matthew Harris. The Junior class has eight members on the team and is just loaded with talent. Coach Smith said that coaching in Gunnison is the most fun that he has ever had as a coach.
