Show Opinions Page 2 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Thursday, November 13, 2008 Letters to the editor... THANKS TO THE HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL COMMITTEE I would like to give a great big pat on the back to Melynda Ward and her committee that put on the Halloween Carnival at the elementary school this year. In the many, MANY years we have attended we have never seen it run quite so smoothly and efficiently. Melynda and her group were very innovative in how and where they ran events so that people were never waiting in long, frustrating lines. They made many changes in activities that helped the event be really fun without being an overwhelming crush of people everywhere. Our kids had a great time, came home with some treats and fun prizes, and are very excited to go back again next year. Dinner was great and so were the fun treats they sold at their sweet shoppe. To those who have been frus- trated at the chaos of previous years, please support the PTA and give it another try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the changes and the fun event that our family experienced this year. Way to step up and re-think how things could be improved, Melynda! It made for a great Halloween! I enjoyed the meeting and discussions, especially those related to the Central Utah Biodiesel project and the wind projects in Central Utah. I was pleased to learn that Thur Nov 13 Baked Chicken Potatoes & Gravy Corn Peaches Roll & Butter alternative/renewable energies are already more cost competitive and thus economically viable than coal and shale oil. These new ‘leapfrog’ technologies will permit Central Utah to avoid the mistakes and problems afflicting its urban neighbors to the North. These initiatives can contribute greatly to the economic development of your region, including jobs, and help provide clean energy to other parts of the state and the nation. Keep up the good work. Back when soldiers were heroes, And football was just a game. I’m dreaming of ol’ Gunnison, I am a child once more. Out in the swing that was hung for us, Just outside the door. I hear my mother’s voice, Calling me inside. But I’ll just sit and smile And hang on for another ride. Gone are the church and schoolhouse, Gone are the homes and trees. But Gunnison lives in our pictures, And in our memories. I’m dreaming of ol’ Gunnison, Home of my childhood days. In my dreams I live again, In those golden yesterdays. When the world closes in on me, And all I want is to run. I’ll escape inside myself, And dream of Gunnison. Yes, inside myself… Just dreaming of ol’ Gunnison. Troy Buchanan |
