The baby, they believe, belonged to a juvenile mother who disposed of it after giving birth to it stillborn. “At this time officials are trying to figure out the best way to go about retrieving the body, if we can,” Sgt. Greg Peterson of the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. On Friday, April 24, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report from someone concerned about the teen’s pregnancy, Peterson said. “Somebody just called it in. Somebody knew she was pregnant, and then she wasn’t, so they were concerned. We had an officer go look into it.” According to what investigators have been told, Peterson said, the girl gave birth, discovered the baby was stillborn, then placed the child in a dumpster. “As far as we know, it is out to the landfill,” Peterson said. While they believe the infant’s body is there and that they know the area where it would have been dumped, officials have concerns about the search, particularly about hazardous substances that searchers could potentially be exposed to. “We’re trying to do as much as we can as fast as we can, but still take care of our guys, too,” Peterson said. “What we’re looking at is something that’s already buried. We’re trying to figure out how to do that” safely,” he said. The incident happened A13 Mt. Pleasant names new rodeo royalty MT. PLEASANT—It’s official! Mt. Pleasant has named its 2009 rodeo royalty.
