In the past, the board has adorned the outdoors with sculptures and showcased photography on darkened storefronts. Their next project will be a little less tangible and a whole lot brighter. “We are putting out an open call for all voices in Summit County to promote and celebrate community connection through public art,” said Scudder, liaison to the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board administrator. “Through this call, we invite people to express themselves through literary art that will eventually be transformed into a projected visual literary art exhibit.” PARK CITY BAPTIST CHURCH www.parkcitybaptist.org | (435) 649-0407 Pastor Sam Burton: (801) 815-1094 PARK CITY COMMUNITY CHURCH (PCCC) (435)649-8131 | www.parkcitycommunitychurch.org PARK CITY INTERFAITH COUNCIL President, Tyler Walton (435)513-0186 | Vice-Pres, Mike Lennon (435)640-1959 ST. Arts Council. Scudder said the Art Advisory Board will accept short-form literary submissions up to 280 characters from artists of all ages, ranging from poetry and prose to riddles and single words. “We want our residents to use their own words, not Edward Abbey’s, to describe how they feel about Summit County,” Scudder said. Art is a key element in reinforcing a community’s bond, she said. “The public art board, and I, believe art serves as a platform that enhances and informs a community,” Scudder said. “We feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring something fresh and innovative to the county, to show residents how art can communicate with them, broaden their horizons and show them new perspectives.” The idea for Project Your Voice was inspired by issues surrounding mental health, Scudder said. “The Summit County Public Art Board has acknowledged that mental health is one of the Summit County Council’s top priorities,” she said. “There are countless articles that discuss the mental health benefits regarding creativity.” When the Public Art Advisory Deadline for written submissions about Summit County When: Sunday, April 7 Guidelines: Original works, 280 characters, no profanity Web: pcscarts.org/opencalls A S t A Board applied for a RAP cultural funding grant, it submitted the results of a 2017 Harvard study showing that creative endeavors provide multiple benefits to mental health, Scudder said. “Using this article as leverage, we proposed Project Your Voice,” Scudder said. April 7 is set as the deadline for submissions. Submissions will be accepted via Twitter with the hashtag #ProjectYourVoiceSC. “One thing we wanted to experiment with is the use of social media as an accessible platform to interact with public art, so that’s why we are asking people to Tweet their entries,” Scudder said. Summit County residents who aren’t on Twitter can still submit entries by visiting pcscarts.org/open-calls. For more information, email Scudder at jscudder@summitcounty.org.
