Show C1 Life Is The Emery County Review, Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Swell Emery and Carbon Counties, Utah u Living in the San Rafael Swell Area u Creative Influences A Josie Luke s the city of Helper continues to draw more artists to the community, The Helper Arts and Music Festival continues to grow and evolve into what organizers hope is an experience with “high end art,” in a comfortable environment, a veritable “bombardment” of all types of art. According to Festival Co-coordinator Melanie Steele, “We try to create an ongoing experience of art” for those who attend the event from Thursday evening, August 14, through Sunday afternoon, August 17. The festival is held in historic downtown Helper, stretching over five blocks, which Steele feels makes it a manageable festival to enjoy. Attendees can expect more than just world class art while strolling through the many indoor galleries, outdoor vendors and art demonstrations; the festival also includes a number of musical performances, a children’s art yard, diverse food vendors and a car and cycle show. This year, organizers are also excited to announce the local premier of Adventures of Power, a comedy filmed in Helper, which will kick off the festival at 7:30 Thursday night, at the Rio Theatre. They are also thrilled for the grand opening of Aset’s Ultimate Airbrush Art Gallery during the festival. The gallery will feature the work of some of the best airbrush artists in the world, and will also offer education on the new art form. A local favorite, the Helper Idol competition will also take place on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. Steele commented that the festival is truly “an artist’s art festival,” in that they want artists to understand that they “really can make a living as an Continued on Page C2.
