Show A3 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, May 20, 2008 Medical Reserve Corps works to establish community partnerships Continued from Page A1. President Bush’s call for all Americans to offer volunteer service in their communities. The mission of the SE- UMRC is to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteer medical and public health professionals as well as other skilled citizens who can contribute their time and expertise during emergencies, disasters, and other times of community need. MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources. Considering our rural and isolated communities, the SEUMRC can fill a vital role in emer- gency preparedness plans and in protecting the health and safety of our citizens. MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. Many community members—interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, and others—can fill key support positions. We have nine out of the 10 vendors from last year’s show and we have added two new vendors to the event. Each vendor is excited about the show and attendees will see many new and exciting fossils, minerals, and jewelry.” Braun started the rock and mineral show last year after seeing the number of people who attended the CEU silversmith and lapi- dary classes. “There’s a lot of local interest in rocks and minerals and people want to know how to get started. This show is a good outlet for them to get information,” he said. In last year’s show Rog- er Killpack of Ferron demonstrated flint knapping, and he plans to be on hand at this year’s show to demonstrate the process to those attending. The 2nd Annual Castle Country Rock, Fossil and Mineral Show will be held in CEU’s Jennifer Leavitt Student Center Ballroom, 526 North, 300 East, in Price. For more information on the event call Patrick Braun at 384-2211. Scout, youth and church groups are invited to attend. 685 South Main Street P.O. Box 487 Orangeville, UT. 84537 Green River Council amends city purchasing policy Annalee Thayn The Green River City Council met Tuesday May 13 for their monthly meeting. There were 13 items on the agenda. Minutes from the preceding meetings were unanimously approved. Ted Thompson with Carnatite, a uranium mining firm working in the area, has sanitation facilities at Buckhorn Wash. He would like permission to collect the gray water there and dump it into the Green River City drain system. Gray water is water that is left over after a shower. Councilman Philip Engleman thought there would be no problem, but until further investigation could be done the matter was tabled until next month. An easement was needed by the Department of Energy to have access to a water line to Crescent Junction. The easement was unanimously agreed to. This was the final easement needed for the uranium tailings project. An amendment to the Purchasing Policy was discussed. It was decided that any bids for under $15,000 dollars didn’t need a sealed bid. Purchases made for items of $5,000 to less than 15,000 dollars would require three bids. It was also decided that purchase bids would be separate from construction bids. A change in mileage reimbursements was approved from 42 cents a mile to 55 cents a mile. This will be current with the Federal and State rates. This change was approved unanimously. Removal of park bleachers was the next item on the agenda. Only one set of park bleachers will be removed. Councilman Kent Johnson believes a grant can be attained to pay for the set that needs to be replaced. In the meantime Emery County will provide temporary park bleachers. Medical benefits for full time city employees will change. Employees have until May 23 to decide which plan they want. Because of lack of information, Mayor Pat Brady will meet with those employees who will be affected by the changes. For convenience, Karen Silliman and Keith Brady are trading their responsibilities as council members. Keith Brady will now be over the Travel Board. Karen Silliman will now be over Planning and Zoning and the Board of Adjustments. Eugene Swalberg and Connie Coppenhaver were accepted unanimously as members of the Economic Development Committee. Kelly Bayles was approved as a member of the John Wesley Powell River History board. Orson Anderson was approved by the City Council, and will be on the Museum board if the board members approve him. For the tentative budget and work schedule, each The Star Grill and Fun Center is sponsoring a fundraiser yard sale for Shirley Lester on June 6-7 from 8 a.m. to noon on both days. The city is encouraging citizens to clean up their yards and homes. If your home is in need of a new paint job you can go to the city office and pick up the information you will need, then go to Jones Ace Hardware and receive $6 off each gallon of outside house paint. Jones Ace Hardware is offering $3 off per gallon of paint and Orangeville City is matching that amount for a total of $6 off per gallon of paint. The city is limited on available funds for the program, so it will be on a first come, first served basis until funds are exhausted. Pick up your Paint the Town certificate at City Hall.
