SF rec. notes dept. gearing up for spring Baseball Tournament Salem Parks and Recreation will have a tournament for 8u, 9u and lOu traveling teams. The tournament will be a four-game guarantee, which will be played weekday evenings, April 13-15, 2010. llu and 12u will be offered two days, April 15-16, 2010 with four games guaranteed. Team registration fee is $300 for the younger three age groups and $325 for l l u and 12u, if registered before March 15, 2010. More information can be found on-line at www.utahsperfectgame.com. Hunter Safety Salem Recreation will offer a hunter safety course starting Feb. 15,2010. The course will include five class dates ending Feb. 19, 2010. Cost is $10 and needs to be paid at the Salem Recreation office. Participants need to be 10 years or older, and must attend all classes to pass. Participants will also need to purchase a $10 license/ voucher prior to the class. Vouchers can be purchased at any local hunting/fishing supply outlet. CROSS Volunteers Needed Salem recreation is now taking names for youth baseball and softball coaches. Most games are played Tuesday and Thursday evenings for grades 3-9. Coaches will be able to pick an assistant coach and practice at their own leisure. Teams will be divided the middle of April. Salem Spring Soccer Salem Parks and Recreation will offer spring soccer again. Players may register now through the end of March. Teams will be divided March 29, 2010 and games will begin the second week of April. Soccer will be offered by Grade for boys and girls K-8th grade. Teams will play six-on-six in most leagues. Women's Zumba Salem Recreation will continue to offer Zumba class in the mornings M/W/F from 6:30-7:20 a.m. for four weeks at the Salem Community Center . Zumba classes incorporate a combination of the most interesting and latest forms of aerobic exercise which include: hip hop, step, pump, Latin, kickboxing, yoga and Pilates. Cost is $30 per month. Payment should be made at Salem Parks and Recreation Office. Boys and Girls, Kindergarten through 9th grades. Feb. 18: Co-ed volleyball early registration ends. Feb. 19: Women's basketball early registration ends. Feb. 22: Spring youth soccer regular registration ends. Boys and girls, K-9th grades. After this day, registration will be taken on a space availability basis only. Feb. 22-25: Women's Nebo Invitational Volleyball Tournament held in Spanish Fork and Payson. Feb. 25: Women's Basketball Organizational Meeting 7 p.m. in the Parks and Recreation meeting room. Dalton Hawk is our student of the month for February. Dalton is the son of Jeremy and Maria Hawk of Spanish Fork, Utah. He is the oldest of three children; he has 1 brother and 1 sister. Dalton's favorite vacation was when his family went to Disneyland. He loves hamburgers, the color blue and his favorite subject in school is science. When he is not in school or in his martial art classes you can find him playing the Wii, his DS, building with Legos or reading a book. Some of his favorite books include the Harry Potter and Star Wars series. He loves the Harry Potter movies as well. Dalton has been taking martial art classes with his father for about a year and a half now and is currently a green belt. Dalton was Dalton Hawk chosen as the student of the month for February because he comes to class each and every week ready to learn, he has a positive attitude and always works hard. Dalton is focused on what he is supposed to be doing and sets a good example for the other students. Alan Albright, our resident NCAA clearinghouse expert, will be there to advise parents and athletes on the classes they will need to take, the grade point average needed and the score on the ACT test needed to participate in college athletics. Mr. Albright will answer any question concerning your student's ability to attend and participate in athletics at any NCAA institution. All grade levels are invited. This meeting is for all prospective students, athletes and parents. Topics will include NCAA legislation, general information and eligibility rules. Please don't wait until your son or daughter is a senior. It may be too late!
