Salem Hills FFA attend state convention Courtney Taylor SHHS April 16-18 10 students from Salem Hills FFA traveled to Logan, for the Utah State FFA Association Convention. The theme this year was "Ignite the Flame, Blaze the Trail." The association encouraged us to get involved and to plan now for our futures. While there, students had the opportunity to watch other students from all over Utah compete in many competitions such as, creed contest, parliamentary procedure, prepared public speaking, extemporaneous speaking, and many more. Zack Beck from Salem Hills participated in the job interview contest. In this competition the participants goes into a room away from everyone else, the judges then call them and do an interview over the phone. Zack made it into the final six, but unfortunately didn't make the top three. Ashley Gibson received her State degree which is an award given to students complete paper work and have met all the requirements with their SAE, or Supervised Agricultural Experience. On Friday there were three two hour sessions of speakers and the association recognized outstanding members. The FFA VicePresident addressed us during this time. On Friday night there was a dance to mingle with members of other chapters from around the state and relax. Saturday morning one last session was held where we heard from two more speakers and the new state officers were installed into office. After that ses- sion we started on our long car ride home. Everyone that went had a lot of fun. New friends were made and our new chapter felt welcomed into the FFA. Going to convention made all of us want to get more involved so that next year we can win awards for our chapter and have more opportunities opened to us that the FFA can provide. igler finds lucky key Region 8 Choir On Tuesday, April 28, representatives from the Ken Garff Keys to Success program drove a white Mitsubishi Galant onto Salem Hills High School's auditorium stage. Out of the 380 students who received Key Cards throughout the school year, fifty lucky students were drawn for a chance to win the sweet car. The assembly was kicked off with a flag ceremony and everyone singing the school song, then the fun began. Students were pulled out of the audience to show off their skill in singing a nursery rhyme opera style. They were very entertaining and the best one walked away with a $100 gift certificate. Four of the lucky fifty competed in a "Name That Tune" contest where the winner received another $100 gift certificate. That same lucky student. Heather Bigler, also had the winning key for the car!
