SF soccer seniors profiled Carlos Garcia Carlos Garcia is the son of David and Monica Garcia. He is a senior soccer player for the Spanish Fork Dons, #16 playing mid-field and wing positions. Carlos was born in Mexico and moved to Provo when he was young. His family moved to Spanish Fork 10 years ago when he was in second grade. He has played soccer since first grade playing on city recreation teams and club teams such as the Bullets, Strikers, Trojans and the Stingers. One of his favorite soccer memories was a game played against Timpview. He said, "I had the ball and it was out of the box. My brother, who was standing on the side lines, yelled "Shoot it!" and I did. The ball went right into the net and I scored. It was an awesome feeling." Carlos has done a lot of traveling in and out of the country including Mexico and Europe. In the states he has traveled to Hawaii, California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Missouri. He loves hanging out with friends. Soccer is his favorite sport, but he also enjoys scuba diving, long boarding and snow boarding. Carlos is very well rounded. Not only is he athletic, but he can play the piano and he sings and dances with the Ambassadors. He enjoys music — jazz, alternative and dance music. Some of his favorite teachers at the high school have been Mrs. Hartley for swim team and AP Psychology, and Mr." Bradshaw's choir classes. Future goals for Carlos include serving an LDS mission and earning a degree in structural engineering. Good luck this season, Carlos! Shad LeFevre According to an anonymous source. Shad LeFevre "is the most awesomest kid alive!" He is the son of Spencer and Shelley LeFevre. He has four siblings, all brothers, including his twin brother Scott. Shad was born in Payson and has lived in Spanish Fork all but one year of his life. He started playing soccer in third grade with the city league. Dennis Gillie was his coach at the time. He has played on club teams such as the Strikers, Trojans and Stingers. Shad, #20, is an awesome defense man playing center and left wing. His favorite soccer memory was when he blocked a PK shot onehanded. He caught the ball and it spun him around. Shad says that soccer has taught him teamwork, leadership, ambition, determination, loyalty, duty, respect and personal courage. (Sounds like someone who just signed up with the army.) Some of Shad's favorite activities besides soccer are playing the guitar and writing songs, girls, rock climbing and camping — not necessarily in that order. His favorite teacher this year is Mr. Ferrin who is Spanish Fork High school's new TV broadcasting teacher. The future for Shad is planned out; no guessing for him. This July he will attend the Army's basic training. His other goals are to serve an LDS mission and become a police officer. Cameron Bardsley Cameron Bardsley is the son of Kevin and Heidi Bardsley. He is a senior this year at Spanish Fork High school, playing midfield for the mighty Dons. He has three siblings, two brothers and one sister. Cameron was born in Monterey, Calif, and has lived in Salem the last 12 years. Cameron has played soccer for eight years, playing for the Hobble Creek Storm, the Salem Strikers and Salem Stingers. His dad has been his coach a few times. This season he is playing midfield; center-mid and the wings are other positions he has played. One of his most favorite soccer memories is when he was playing for the Hobble Creek Storm. The team went to Las Vegas to play in a tournament. He said the team did very well and they had a blast hanging out together. Cameron said soccer has taught him "team work skills, leadership and to control my temper." He enjoys soccer, snowboarding, long boarding and reading. His favorite book is "Angels and Demons." Cameron also enjoys cooking and is in the ProStart/CuIinary Arts class at SFHS, which introduces students to the world of professional cooking. He has also enjoyed his photography class from Mr. Cr.an.dall. One of his favorite teachers throughout his high school career is Mrs. Hartley. Cameron's future plans are to serve an LDS mission and then attend BYU. Arturo Hernandez Arturo Hernandez is the son Humberto and Gabriella Hernandez. Arturo was born in Mexico and has lived in Spanish Fork the last three years. Four sisters make Arturo the man amongst the ladies. He has a lot of experience on the field, having played soccer for 13 years. Most of that experience is with club teams. Arty (the name most of his friends call him) is a senior who plays midfield or forward. Everyone who follows soccer knows how hard it is to perform a bicycle kick. Arty's favorite soccer memory is doing a bicycle kick against Timpview when he was a sophomore. Soccer has taught Arturo discipline, team work and to not be afraid to try new things. Arty's favorite classes and teachers are physics from Mr. Bronson and English with Mrs. Hillier. He enjoys music — country and hip hop — swimming, long-boarding and hanging out with friends. His plans for the future are to serve an LDS mission, play college soccer and be successful in life. AND MORE SENIORS: Pictured above left is Shad LeFevre; above right is Arturo Hernandez. Region play started this week as the SFHS soccer team played American Fork and Timpanogos with one win and one loss. On Wednesday, April 1, the Dons took on the AF Cavemen. The game started off great with the Dons getting the quick score. Dan Gillie booted it from the backfield, where Jorge Chacon was waiting for the tap in. Riley Dinehart used his head and Gillie his chest to stop the ball and get it back up the field. Shad LeFevre helped defend and clear the ball from the goal area. Carlos Garcia and Tanner Tagg teamed up to win the ball and move it up the field. It was a physical game, with Sam Roberts getting knocked down and leaving the field, but he came back later to challenge AF for the ball. The team did an exceptional job switching the field and keeping the game at a fast pace. The Cavemen had a close shot but Chet Harmer dove in for the save. Arturo Hernandez demonstrated a great overhead kick while on his back. Jorge Chacon kept the action going by moving the ball up field. In the final seconds of the game some pushing and shoving took place and two Dons received red cards, putting a damper on the 1-0 win. On Friday April 3, the Dons went to a Timpanogos field that resembled the swamplands. Dan Hales halted the ball and sent it back up the line to get the Dons' offense moving. While in attack mode, Lucas Lima kept the T-wolves from scoring. The Dons were passing well, and Jason Villaroel had some impressive moves through the center of the field. Stepping up to help out the varsity team were Bryan Bies and Ryan Peterson. Dinehart wasn't afraid to challenge the T-wolves, but they punched in two the first half. In the second, Tagg took a stunning swan dive to defend the goal, but Timpanogos still managed to get it in. After many of the players took the plunge and were dripping wet, the Twolves scored again. On the rebound, Lima stole the ball but ended up on the ground. Carlos Garcia battled for the ball and took it down the field, missing the goal by mere inches. Sam Roberts finally got a long shot and scored. There were several players rolling around in the mud as the T-wolves score once again. Luis Vazquez helped out, taking a penalty kick. In the end, the team looked like swamp rats and had a disappointing 5-1 loss. Dons continued the scoring in the top of the second with a two-RBI double by Senior Kylee Bufton. The long ball exhibition continued in the fourth inning as the Dons scored five runs on three home runs by Kylee Brinkerhoff, Lyndsey Healey and Ferguson's second of the game to grab a 12-2 lead. Spanish Fork scored two more runs in the fourth on an RBIdouble by Dezlee Roberts and a RBI-single by Junior Rachelle Remund. The Dons topped off the scoring in the top of the fifth. Spanish Fork pounded out six home runs on their way to a 21-4 victory, but more importantly opened up region play with a 2-0 record. two minutes later. Delta answered with another goal to take a 2-1 lead into half time. The JV squad showed great character as they fought back to tie the game and take the lead, with goals from Tannon Bradley and Jordan Daniels; both scored beautiful goals from outside the 18. Jordan's shot banked off the far post and into the goal. SkylerHughes helped to anchor the defense and shut down Delta's lone threat to score and steal the 3-2 win. Nate Parker controlled the game from his center-mid position, directing the offense and helping to contain on defense. Mason McAllister, Matt Strong and Jordan Daniels each tallied goals for the 3-0 win. Nate Jellum and his defense earned another shutout for the season. At Juan Diego on April 3, the JV squad met another tough opponent and demonstrated character and poise as they battled with Juan Diego evenly until the waning moments of the game. The Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead into half time. Nate Jellum lead his team the entire match as he directed his defense and kept communicating with the boys up top. Jordan Daniels notched the first goal of the match as he megged the keeper. He also tallied the game-winning match as he and Matt Strong beat the keeper. Gillie said this match was their best play of the week. Neal Pemberton was the game MVP for SHHS, with Trevor Mortensen named supersub. "The boys are improving each game and showing great progress," he said.
