Alexa Johnson rock star Christene Choate STAFF WRITER On April 26th KUTV News held auditions for 2 News Rock Star, anyone could try out. Local Spanish Fork High School student Alexa Johnson auditioned and made it into the top three. Alexa's mom, Kaye heard about the competition while watching the news and encouraged Alexa to audition. "I wasn't going to audition, but the night before I found a song and just decided to do it," said Alexa. At the first audition Alexa felt as though she had a good chance. 'There were a lot of good people trying out; I thought I had at least a fifty-fifty chance of making it." The process of the competition was long and hard. Every Tuesday groups of three would sing before the judges and the judges would pick one of the three to move on. The top nine was the toughest for Alexa and the judges. From there it went to the top ihree who were Alexa Johnson, Tyla Ward and Chelsea McManus. Alexa was the youngest of the three, but felt that each of them was equally talented. Many famous artists appeared on the KUTV News Rock Star. "All of them were really nice," said Alexa, "Wt got to talk to them afterwards and ask them questions." Judges who appeared on the show were Chelsey Stallings 2007 winner, Thurl Bailey, David Osmond and Carmen Rassmussen. Apart from the opportunity to sing in front famous judges and to be on television, Alexa was given a free make over arid free clothes to wear on the show. "I got the star treatment, new clothes and new hair. It was awesome," said Alexa. Alexa received a lot support from fellow students at Spanish Fork High School. Everyday during morning announcements students were encouraged to get online and vote for Alexa. "People who I didn't even know would come up to me and say they had voted for me," said Alexa. "It was cool that they voted for me even though we weren't really friends." Alexa loves to sing and can see singing as part of her future career. "I definitely want to make singing part of my career." said Alexa, "I have always had a knack for it." Along with singing she also plays the piano and writes her own songs.
