Getting ready for St. Patrick's day and Spring fever There and Back Again Shirlene Ottesen Well, the weeks are clipping right along, aren't they! Here we are in another new month — the month of shamrocks and the arrival of a new season. St. Patrick's Day is on the seventeenth and then the first day of Spring is the 20th. I think we're all looking forward to Spring this year. Right now, we are experiencing a fifth season, which is unique to those of us who live on a farm. The season is called MUD. After a good winter with lots of snow, plus some storms that have mixed rain with snow, our farm yards are a sea of mud. And now, with welcomed warmer temperatures, the snow and ice are melting, thus causing this fifth season. Tractors, trucks, delivery trucks, manure spreaders, livestock trailers are going in and out and have kept roadways and yards churned up and it just keeps getting a little deeper. For a while, when the temperatures were cold and the mud was frozen, it was easier to get around the yard, but that has all changed and according to the weather people, we're not done yet. And that's okay. This is much, much better than having drought conditions continue in our area. We have truly been blessed. So, everybody, let's not murmur too much lest things turn around again. I'm still eating candy leftover from Valentine's Day and now we will have two holidays this month: St. Patrick's Day and did you know that Easter is the 23 of this month? I much prefer Easter to come in April, it just seems like a more appropriate month. Oh, before I forget, I need to make a correction on last week's recipe for the Sweet and Tangy Chicken Wings. I wrote that the sauce was adequate for the 30 wings called for the in the recipe, but that's not right. 1 only cooked 14 wings and the sauce was adequate for that amount, but I think you would have to double the recipe if you cooked 30. Thirteen years ago, I compiled a History of Palmyra. I think at that time we printed and sold about five or six hundred copies. Recently, there have been numerous inquiries for more copies of the book, so preparations are being made at the present time to do so. As in the past, I need to know how much interest there will be for another printing. If you are interested, it will be necessary for you to preorder your copy. Books are too expensive to just pick a number out of the air and hope you are right. Also, there won't be a lot of advertising except in this column and by word of mouth. Send or bring your name, address and phone number, and amount of books you would like to orderto Shirlene R. Ottesen, 1765 West 5000 South, Spanish Fork, Ut., 84660. This new book will be much the same as the first — it will have some histories of early settlers, the early history of the community of Palmyra which started when a branch of the Church was organized in 1851. I have updated some*' sections of the book which include the bishoprics, missionaries, the new church and servicemen. I have added a section on the farms that have been given the Century Farm award and some additional personal memories of current and former residents. There are 358 pages in the book and ii BUILDER OF CUSTOM HOMES FOR 30 YEARS Numerous Awards including: People's Choice • judges • Presidential **DISTRESS SALES** Free list with pictures of bank forclosure properties and distress sales www.utahcountyhomesearch.com Or will have a hard cover. Your laugh for the week: A cocky Federal Highway Department employee stopped at a farm and talked to the old farmer. He told the farmer, "I need to inspect your farm for a possible new road.'1 The old farmer said, "Okay, but don't go in that field." The Highway employee said, "I have the authority of the U. S. Federal Government to go where I want. See this card? I am allowed to go wherever I wish on farm land!" So the old farmer went about his farm chores. Later, he heard loud screams and saw the U. S. Federal Highway employee running for the fence, and close behind was the farmer's prize bull. The bull was madder than a nest full of hornets and was gaining on the employee at every step. The old farmer called out, "Show him your card. Show him your card!" DEAN-S rotiALITY (TRANSMISSIONS Celebrating 20 years serving great customers.
