Spanish Oaks On December 3, 2007, at Spanish Fork High School, over 2,000 Nebo District fourth-grade students and their teachers attended an educational concert by the Utah Symphony. This is the second annual district-wide, fourth-grade experience. Two concerts were provided to make room for the large number of students. Students were prepared for the experience by their teachers who received educational materials in advance from the Utah Symphony. Students were dressed in their best clothes for this cultural event and were model concert-goers who displayed courteous behavior. The students enjoyed this field trip immensely according to their teachers. One student from Art City Elementary, Taylor Sweeten, said, "While we were there, the Symphony members taught us about rhythm, beat and tempo in music. The Symphony played songs that illustrated these principles. We felt, in our souls, the music as they played." This opportunity was provided with support from the Utah State Legislature as part of the Professional Outreach for Public Schools (POPS) Program. By having all fourth-grade students attend these concerts, Nebo Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News INTENSITY: Assistant Conductor David Cho leads the Utah Symphony in their performance for Nebo fourth-graders. Julie Christofferson, Nebo District's fine arts specialist, said, "We feel it is very important for every student to have this type of experience. We are fortunate to have such a high quality performance right here in our own backyard. The Utah Symphony goes to great length to present in such a way to make sure it is educational for the students."
