Show orts SP Covering what matters most on a WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2007 • B1 ROLL Dons defeat Devils at buzzer SF stays perfect against Fremont Jace Dalton STAFF WRITER Jace Dalton The Spanish Fork Dons improved to 3-0 after beating Springville in a thrilling last-second win. With 2.1 seconds left in the game, the ball was in-bounded to Zac Clayton, who threw it up for three and missed, but Kevin Roberts was there to tip it in for the win. In the second quarter of play, Spanish Fork went to their three big men. Kevin Roberts finished the game with 19 points including the game-winning basket. Juan Verbara coming off the bench did a great job backing up Devin Nelson. Verbara finished with nine points and kept the game close, going into the half 32-30 in favor of the Dons. In the third quarter there was a defensive clinic by both teams, only allowing a combined 17 points which would make the score going into the fourth quarter 39-40, Spanish Fork. In the fourth quarter Spanish Fork found themselves down by five points with just over two minutes left in the game. They really started to play catch up by playing stellar defense and converting shots. Then, with just under 30 seconds left in regulation, Springville got the ball back and wasted 26 seconds off the clock when the Don defense forced them to throw it out of bounds with 2.1 seconds remaining. That set up the game-winning tip-in by Roberts. Spanish Fork handed the Springville Red Devils their first loss of the year, making their record 2 - 1 . STAFF WRITER The Spanish Fork Dons improved to 4-0 after taking down the Fremont Silverwolves 58-53 on Friday, Dec. 7 in what was a very defensive game on both sides. The Spanish Fork Dons jumped out to a early lead in the first quarter of play, due in large part to the great play of their guards who were either assisting or scoring. The Dons led 18-12 after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter Spanish Fork continued with what the did in the first and they also got some help from Zac Clayton who had two consecutive fast break lay-ups. The Dons led 32-22 at the half. In the third quarter Fremont made some adjustments on the defensive end and the offensive end of the court and held the dons to just 11 points in the quarter. Fremont scored 20 to pull within one point of the Dons, 4 3 ^ 2 at the end of the third. In the fourth quarter Spanish Fork played lights out, scoring 15 points and holding the Silver Wolves to just 11. The Dons made their free throws at the end to seal the deal making the final score 58-53. The biggest reason why the Dons won the game was the play of Zac Clayton who ended the game with 14 points. Dallin Naulu ended the game with 11. Naulu had 72 receptions on the year, including seven TD receptions. He was also named Second Team All State.
