Lesson 1: Do something to make the world more beautiful (Miss Rumphius). Lesson 2: Clean up the house when you are through playing (The Cat in the Hat). Lesson 3: If you think you can, you can (The Little Engine That Could). Lesson 4: There's no place like home (The Wizard of Oz). Lesson 5: Be glad you live in a world where there are Octobers (Anne of Green Gables). Nebo School District's elementary librarians meet monthly to improve their skills, work on sharing and making exciting lesson plans for your children and have fun reading books. Fpr December's meeting included each librarian receiving three books for their school library donated by Nancy Livingston. These books are sure \r contain some more important life lessons. Eric Murdock Krissy Olsen Melinda Lundgren SFJH announces students of the month Lindsay Black Lindsay Black is an eighth grader and the daughter of Kedric and Leslie Black of Spanish Fork. Lindsay enjoys going to school and learning new things. She also enjoys talking to her friends. Lindsay is a well-rounded girl. Her interests include acting, playing soccer, hiking, fourwheeling, and hanging out with friends and family. After she graduates, she plans on attending college and studying to become a veterinarian. Lindsay has a very positive attitude about life and school. Kayden Porter Kayden Porter is an eighth grader and the son of Don and Lisa Young and Troy and Amy Porter of Spanish Fork. His favorite subjects are Math because he enjoys the challenge and he likes his teacher, Mrs. Coxson, and Lunch where he likes to talk with his friends. Kayden is an athlete. He excels in baseball and has played in tournaments as far east as New York as well as in the neighboring states of Nevada, Idaho, and Colorado. He also likes football and basketball. After graduation, Kayden would like to attend BYU or the University of Texas. He plans on studying medicine or becoming a baseball coach. He has a very funny personality and is able to do hilarious impersonations and funny dances. His parents say is also a wonderful son! Caleb Boden Caleb Boden is a seventh grader and the son of Brian and Teresa Boden of Salem. His favorite class is P.E. because he likes running and athletic activities. He likes to push himself to work harder and improve his athletic abilities. Caleb also enjoys History and learning about the past and how it differs from the present. Caleb plays on a local accelerated soccer team — the Salem Santos. He also plays basketball and is active in the Leland Livestock 4-H Club. He plans on attending BYU and studying Animal Science. He would like to play on the BYU basketball team while attending school. One thing unique about Caleb is that he is older than most in his class. Krissy Olsen Krissy Olsen is a seventh grader and the daughter of Curtis and Judy Olsen of Spanish Fork. The thing she enjoys most about school is seeing her friends in all of her classes. Her friends help her to have a positive attitude and look forward to coming to school each day. Krissy is a "Level 7" gymnast and very successful in that sport. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and organizing. She intends to go to BYU, participate on the gymnastics team and study nursing. Krissy said that since she is one of the shortest students in her school, she is often mistaken for a seven or eight-year-old. Eric Murdock Eric Murdock is a ninth grader and the son of Kelly and Angie Murdock of Spanish Fork. He enjoys his Tech Ed class — building things and doing experiments. He thinks that his teacher is very nice in that class. In his spare time, Eric plays video games. His favorite games are the Zelda games on his Wii. He is active in scouting and is only steps away from earning his Eagle Award. He would like to attend Dig-Pen Technology College where he can study video game development. Eric said that he is able to memorize a video game after only one time though. Melinda Lundgren Melinda Lundgren is a ninth grader and the daughter of Dennis and DeAnn Lundgren of Spanish Fork. She loves being at school because she has so many great friends that she enjoys being with. Her favorite class is English where she enjoys all of the cool writing assignments. Melinda is quite a musician. She is in the high school marching band where she plays the trumpet. She also plays baritone in the high school pep band. Her hobbies are "all about the music." She loves it and plays the piano as well. She also enjoys running in her spare time, Melinda is a real people person. She loves to see people happy and smiling and will do what she can to help make that happen. After high school, she would like to pursue a career in the social help field, such as counseling or social work. Melinda also loves to work in the yard and garden. The resulting trees and flowers give her a real sense of satisfaction. Athlete honored at Diamond Fork The Diamond Fork Jr. High girls' basketball team would like to recognize Jen Huntsman for her amazing job on the court. Jen has scored over 10 points in every game. She also scored the winning layup in the game against Oak Canyon. Jen was voted as one of the team captains by the other members of the basketball team. She is a straight %A' student. Jen is a wonderful student as well as athlete. Way to go, Jen! DFJH Upcoming Events Diamond Fork Jr. will be holding their annual Christmas Concerts: Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. - 7th grade band Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m.- 8th and 9th grade band. Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. - 7th Grade Singers, Concert Choir followed by Women's Choir at 7 p.m: Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. - 7th grade orchestra followed by the String's Symphony. SFJH Choirs Pre-school guests show and teach Courtesy photo ATTENTION MALL SHOPPERS: Members of all Spanish Fork Jr. High School choirs spread a little Christmas cheer at the University Mall on Friday Dec. 7, 2007. The choirs are directed by Sharon Hopkins. The choirs will be-combining with the orchestra and the bands for the Combined Christmas Concert on Dec. 18 and 19. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the SFHS Theater. For the past several weeks, the students at Oak View Pre-School owned by Marilyn Cope have enjoyed doing "Show and Teach." The students' parents and grandparents have willingly come to educate the children on various subjects. Dr. Jon Hunter, a local veterinarian brought his grandchild's cat, Optimus Prime (O.P.) and talked about pet care. He also brought x-rays of a cat that had been shot with a BB Gun and expressed the dangers of guns around small animals. Mil^e Williams, a rock polisher brought his collection of rocks that he has collected all over the state of Utah and taught the children about the different types of rocks and the minerals that are found in rocks. Peggy Ostler, a registered nurse at Mountain View Hospital, talked to the children about what a nurse does for their patients. She also brought a stethoscope sO the children could hear their heart beats. Dwayne Keck, an avid hunter, brought his geese decoys and layout blind and explained to the children the strategy that is used to hunt geese for meat and the use of feathers for down pillows. The children were very attentive and thoroughly enjoyed these learning experiences. |
