Our school choir filled the room with patriotic songs. Thanks to all the veterans who have served or are serving in the military and protecting the freedoms we all enjoy! To finish off their modern day European studies they had a Eurofest that featured sample cuisines from selected countries. After the students sampled various foods such as Swiss Chocolate, English pastries, and different cheeses they battled each other in soccer, a very popular European sport. During the month of November, the fifth grade students are supporting our troops by collecting needed personal and edible items as well as small toys or school supplies for the soldiers to hand out to children. The students are excited about their service project and are happy to support the troops! Music was playing while the students were coming in and when they brought in the colors, everyone stood and showed respect. The Veterans told stories about the time they spend in the war, what they did what their struggles were. After the assembly was over, some students were asked about what they thought and felt while the veterans were talking. An eight-year-old boy said, "I thought it was so cool that someone would go over and fight for someone they don't even know like me, that's awesome." A kindergarten student stated, "The story about the airplanes was cool, I want to be someone who flies when I grow up." |
