Race coordinator Frank Leany even got a call from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was unable to be present for the event, but promised he would "be back." Arthur Babbel's new dragster, complete with stereo system and parachute, tied with the #3 for the viewers choice awards. The north end of the ballpark was filled with vintage rods and trucks. Participants from all over the valley came to show off their rides, including a 1968 Dodge Charger, owned by Mel Waidmann of Woodland Hills and a convertible 1956 Chev Corvette owned by Larry Ostler of Salem.
