Show the lAuGhiNg pOiNt!: EverylCounts KNOCK ON THE DOOR SEEN THIS? That's right, just like the title, are you hope-based or fear-based? Let me expand on this. Do you believe good will come your way and follow the adage, "If there is a will, there is a way?" and tell yourself and others, "It is possible. It can be done." Or, is this more you, "It will never happen. Bad luck follows me everywhere. It never works out. I can't do this" and "Who does he/ she think he/she is? He/she can't do anything right." Hope-based people are everywhere. They are leaders of organizations, they are employees, and they are parents, teachers, coaches, spouses and children too, among others. Unfortunately, so are fear-bases ones'. I don't know about you, but I thrive around hope-based people and in hope-based organizations, and under hope-based leadership. Quite the contrary regarding fear-based ones' (i.e., people, organizations and leadership). I am sure there are some of you who feel the same. I do know of one fearbased leader actually. In the field of education of all fields. She will find everything wrong with you –unless you are her favorite and her race—and she will tell others about your weaknesses in addition to you. She is also disloyal, even to her family members who she tells you about (not their good attributes) when she isn't telling you horrible things about her boss followed by, "Don't tell anyone I'm telling you this." Talk about red flags. What's more, I know of a hope-based leader, also in the field of education. Her goal is to help you find your greatness. She asks you a myriad of questions to locate your strengths. And then –which is really quite cool actually- you watch her go to work on creating a plan for you based on the strengths she was able to identify. All she asks in return? That you help someone else find their greatness. Sounds like paying it forward to me. Someone once said, "Leaders instill in their people a hope for success and a belief in them. Positive leaders empower people to accomplish their goals." Fear-based leaders don't do this, but they do tend to be insecure and some even thrive on power and misuse it. Others are just really unskilled and or repeating generational bad habits that need to be broken. Hope-based leaders are confident in who they are and don't need power to make things happen. Their goal is to find their own greatness so that they can help others find theirs. I hope that if you are a fear-based leader that you will become a hope-based one. In doing so, you will confidently be able to lay your head down at night knowing that you instilled hope in another human being. That's not even including the generational ripple effect that often occurs which will most likely be unknown to you. French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte said, "A leader is a leader of hope." What a compliment it will be when someone says to you, "You are a leader of hope. Thank you for believing in, loving and supporting me. I will be forever grateful to you." Or when they tell others about you, "He/she is a leader of hope. I want to be just like him/her when I grow up." Your great-greatgrandparents used clay and straw to seal their home. Up to There were many delays after the Army decided to purchase property from a civilian owner. The Army intended to convert the property into military housing. The owner's lawyer became very frustrated that it took so long to close the deal, and said, "I don't like working with the government. I'm not sure I'd even trust one of their checks." "I wouldn't worry," was the government lawyer's reply. "Not only do they print their own checks, but they also print the money to back them up." SHORT AND STOUT DISPLAY I do in-store demonstrations, and I had my table set up, my product was on display and I was ready to start my day. A woman came down the aisle towards me, and I said, "Good morning, have you tried..." But before I could finish, she hurried by and said, "My husband can't eat that, so I never buy it!" I was displaying facial tissue. Karleen Mclnelly I am a prosecuting attorney in a small Mississippi town and will admit to having a few extra pounds on me. Not long ago, I was questioning a witness in an armed robbery case. I asked, "Would you describe the person you saw?" The witness replied, "He was kind of short and stout." "You mean short and stout like me?" I asked. "Oh, no," the witness said. "He wasn't that fat." Bracing for the worst, my husband, who was working on a job site, opened up. "Is that yours?" asked the officer, pointing to a company van that was jutting out into the narrow street. "Uh, yes, it is," said my husband. "Would you mind moving it?" asked the officer. "We've set up a speed trap and the van's causing everyone to slow down."
