Show The Garfield County Insider Page 4 June 9, 2011 10111111C11 by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Do you think that the wind is ever going to quit? Well the Tulips are gone and the crab apple blossoms have blown away with the wind, but now its lilac time and do they smell good. Can you believe it, in two weeks will be the start of summer and the longest day of the year, I can't wait for the wind to stop so I can start riding my bike out on the river lane. Here it is the second week in June and finally we have had two days in a row that we didn't have to start a fire.. The 222, Triple Deuce is shipping out again. They will be going to Camp Attabery for two months of training and them will fly off to Kuwait and then into Iraq. This is the 4th time they have been deplored and many of them it's their second trip to the war front. There are 475 soldiers going and out of our area there are six brave young men coming to the aid of our Country. Nick Bangertor, Gordon Dickenson, Dillon Hepworth, Mitch Moore, Justin Nelson, and Lance Sawyer and I pray that they will all be safe. They are being deplored to help with getting our troops out by the end of the year. Some good news Joe Adams is coming home after being in Iraq for some time. I hope that you made it to the Chocolate Fest last night, wasn't it great? All that great food and great entertainment, you can't get any better than that. Tonight is the Quilt Walk Play and with a lot of new cast members, it should be fun. Elaine Baldwin always gets the best out of the cast. Look for the old guy in the play that they modeled the Quilt Walk Statue after. During the day will be the quilt classes and the Trunk Show where the Quilters show off their stuff and talk about them, there is always a lot of prizes and it is a fun time. The classes and the trunk shows go on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, come and join in. All of the Quilts will be on display at the high school gym and also on display will be the Last" Supper Quilt"; this was three years in the making. Thursday is the Historic Panguitch Walking Tour of Panguitch Main Street. Art Cooper will act as the guide on this day and Friday and Saturday the tour is self guided. FBLA students: Sierra Allen, Cianna Swartzmiller, and Wyatt Moore will host the event. Peggy from the Red Brick Inn B&B has donated " to die for cookies" for this one time only event. Friday is the pioneer home tours and you are in for a real treat. Claudia and Leon Crump are showing their "back yard". It is full of antiques, old cabins that have been restored and Claudia's quilting room. No Claudia's home is not on the tour ! The old quilt shop on Main Streets has been refurbished and is now the Native Wind which is also on the tour. It has many items for sale that includes paintings, quilting materials and equipment. This is "Aunt Ruth's old home and you need to see it now! The Gem Theater is opening its doors for a tour. If you missed the grand opening this is your chance to see it now. Grace Benefield's home (it is up for sale) as well as Naileen Heywood's ( her son Bruce has restored and renovated the home and will use it for frequent visits) homes are going to be on the tour also. Friday night is the second showing of the play and is usually sold out, so make reservation. Saturday morning starts out with the Panguitch Lions all you can eat breakfast and it will be at the Zions Bank. By the High School marquee sign will be the Heritage Fair. Come learn some of the skills of the early pioneers, like quilting, butter making, candle dipping and corn husk doll making There will be a petting zoo furnished by Lorena and Joe Decker's PAWS', which is a lot of fun for the little ones. Saturday afternoon is really exciting, starting off with the Tractor parade (call Joe Nay or Wally Veater to get in the parade or meet at the city office). The parade starts at 2:00 pm. After the parade is the Quilt Walk Race, get your team of 7 racers and get into the fun. T-shirts are the prizes this year. Jay and Tera Connor have headed this event for many years and the Lions club sponsors the event an buys the prizes. Next will be the first annual tractor pull, this event will be free and if it's to continue it will need the Towns support, so come on and join in the fun. At last but not the least is the closing night of the quilt walk play. The morning starts at 6:00 am and finishes off at about midnight, what a fun day. A little excitement in the area Wally Venter was parting out one of his old trash trucks and set fire to the inside contents to clean it out. Wally didn't know he had so many friends, they all came out to help put the fire out, and so Wally got in a lot of visiting. By the way the arch at the cemetery was knocked over by a truck by accident. The cemetery board will have it replaced as soon as the Quilt Walk Festival is over. The swimming pool is offering swimming lesson between June 20th and the 30th. Call Kim Campbell at 690-9206 or Ann Reynolds at 676-8115. The lessons are $25 and are for anyone in the County. The cost for swimming is $2.00 per person and there are monthly family rates and annual rates and the Monday night special is family night and it is $5.00 for a family. Bless these young ladies for stepping up to keep the pool open. I don't know if you are watching the NBA Finals or not by they sure are exciting, most of the games have gone down to the final seconds. Dallas has come back from 15 points behind a couple times for wins and my favorite Labron James is doing his thing. I kind of wish it wouldn't end, basketball is my life. Our new School Superintend Ben Dalton is now working and everyone is thrilled with him. He knows how to treat the teachers and the office help with respect and that is what it takes to be successful. Peace! Mack 0.
