Show DECEMBER 28,2006 THE Page 18 GARFIFXD COUNTY INSIDER Bryce Canyon National Park: A Great Place to Visit in the Winter Visitors and staff describe the snowcapped Hoodoos at Bryce Canyon National Park as more awe-inspiring than in the summer. Many people assume that with the 8000' elevation at Bryce Canyon that the park is closed for the winter; but the park remains open year round. Park employees actively work to keep the 18 mile road open. Occasionally, during or just after a snowstorm the road may be closed just beyond the turn off to Bryce Point and Inspiration Point. The main amphitheater viewpoints remain accessible as much as possible. The Fairyland Point Road and the Paria Point road are closed for the winter for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Rangers provide interpretive snowshoe hikes for park visitors. These are dependent on staffing and snow levels, check at the Visitor Center for program schedules. In the winter, it is not unusual to discover rabbit or fox tracks in the snow. Snowshoeing or skiing at Bryce can be a peaceful experience and great exercise. The Bryce Canyon Visitor Center is open from 8:00 to 4:30 daily throughout the winter. The orientation film is shown upon request.
