Dave Iba/ UVU Review Junior Allyce Wilson was named last week's conference player of the week. Dave Iba/ UVU Review The Wolverine defense stayed strong as UVU came away with the win in five games, It was a long fought battle that ended in a five-set win for the Wolverines, as they remained unbeaten at home this season. Things were looking up for the girls in the first game as they had a decent lead and won 25-20. The nail biting began in the second when Weber took the two-point win 26-24. It flipflopped in the third and the Wolverines took the twopoint win this time 25-23. It was the little mistakes that cost the girls in the remaining two games, giving Weber State the victory. "We struggled in the fourth set, but came back and made very few errors in the fifth," coach Sam Atoa said. "I think our defense did a great job all night of getting us the early lead and helping us keep it." Again, sophomore hard hitter Kayli Broadbent was just one dig short of a dou- ble-double, racking in 23 kills. Allyce Wilson also contributed 29 digs to the team. Freshman Jaicee Kuresa had an outstanding performance as well. She had 2 assisted blocks and one solo block. Kuresa, a redshirt last year from Hyrum, Utah, also holds the high school state record for most service aces in a match (13). Weber took a commanding lead in the fourth round 11-2 and ended the game 25-12. The fifth round was almost parallel and the final 15-8. The girls now sit on a 3-7 record, which is definitely an improvement after starting 0-5. "The good tiling about volleyball is you get to start over," Atoa said.
