Leading the way for the Aggie men was Senior DJ Smith. In record-setting fashion, he won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.28 seconds to break a standing USU record. The time, which qualifies Smith for the NCAA championships, broke a 14-yearold record that was held by Bode Osagiobare who in 1993 ran a time of 10.33. Smith's time of 10.28 is currently first in the WAC. Smith came in second place in the 200. He had a season best time of 21.34, which places him second in the WAC on the year. The men's 4x100 relay team claimed first place with a time of 40.57, just three one-hundredths of a second off an NCAA regional qualifying time. The relay team members are Smith, John Strang, Andy Davis, and Dasheek Akwenye. Scott Bell clinched first place first place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.51 seconds. Nicholas Karren came in third-place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.38 seconds, which qualified him for regionals. Kevin Liu led the way for the Aggies in the field events as he placed seventh in the shot put, fifth in the discus, and fourth in the hammer. Chase Taylor recorded a fifth-place finish in the javelin. The top three Aggie men in the 1500 race all finished within half a second of each other. Ben Kessen came in fifth place overall with a time of 3:59.57Vance Twitchell and Aaron Clements followed closely behind to finish sixth and seventh place respectively. For the women, Senior Amber Peterson had two first place victories. She finished first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.94 seconds, which was her personal best. Caroline Berry led the way for the women in the 5,000 with a time of 18:25, coming in second place overall. Krista Larsen finished in the top 10 of all three of her field events. She finished sixth place in discus and tenth place in both the shot put and hammer. With a 20-minute break between Saturday's game 1 and 2, the Aggies were able to recuperate after their second loss and prove they had it in them. A despondent Coach Matt Polytyka said his young team "made [Westminster] look better than they are." The visiting Griffons scored quickly in the first quarter, peppering USU goalie Jackson Evans. "They had 12 shots and nine goals," Polytyka said. "We didn't get any stops there on the defensive end in the first quarter. Our freshman goalie didn't play too well. He didn't make a lot of saves. It seemed like every shot they took went in.w USU started to play in the second quarter, converting a couple of ground balls into goals by Steve Hughes (2) and Lance Weeks (l). Weeks picked up a loose ball and charged the better part of the length of the field right to Colorado's net before scoring unassisted. "The offensive movement was better," Polytyka said of the second quarter. Unfortunately USU was giving up five goals to Westminster at the same time they were showing signs of life on offense, and went into halftime down by 11. In the second half, Westminster's superior team depth showed as they possessed the ball and scored six more goals on Raymond with a methodical barrage. One brief enlivenment to the dull afternoon under the hot sun was provided by Kyle Pearson of the Aggies, who earned a fighting ejection penalty in the third quarter. After taking a hard late Sharpton to question Imus about remarks NEW YORK (AP) - Don Imus will appear on the Rev. Al Sharpton's radio show Monday, five days after Imus made racially charged comments on his own show about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Sharpton and MSNBC announced Sunday. Despite Imus' scheduled appearance, Sharpton said his position was unchanged: He wants Imus fired and intends to write the Federal Communications Commission about the matter. "Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," Sharpton said Sunday. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this." The Rev. Jesse Jackson said his RainbowPUSH Coalition plans to protest Monday in Chicago outside the offices of NBC, which owns MSNBC, over the remark Imus made last Wednesday during his show. Imus said members of the mostly black Rutgers University women's basketball team were "nappy-headed hos." LAS VEGAS (AP) - Will Power's first Champ Car victory was almost too easy. The first Australian ever to win a race in the Champ Car World Series or its predecessor, CART, Power led 38 of the 68 laps in the seasonopening Vegas Grand Prix and won by about a half-mile on the 2.44-mile, 12-turn temporary circuit. M It was a pretty cruisy race, really," Power said, grinning. "I was saving fuel and saving brakes because the brake pedal was really getting pretty long." Last year's top rookie said he was "relieved" when the 1hour, 45-minute timed event snaking through the streets of downtown Las Vegas ended. "When I heard there were about three laps to go, I figured we probably had it, but I still just wanted to get it done before something happened," said Power. At the finish, it wasn't even close with Power beating rookie Robert Doornbos of Holland by 16.787 seconds.
