Over the years of writing this column, I've never really gone off on a political rant, but today there are two burning questions on my mind: 1 )VVhere is the war on terror taking us? 2)Why still hasn't Garrett Wheeler J o h n A sh c rof t launched his singing career with a new album? O b v i o u s I y Chew on this number two on my list is somewhat of a joke. John Ashcroft doesn't need a distinguished singing career. He seems to be doing just fine as the Attorney General. Now on to the war topic. Ifs been almost five years since the catastrophic 9/11 terror attacks. I remember them vividly. What I don't remember is how Osama Bin Laden worked in the justification for removing my agency to participate in onboard nail clipping. Thankfully, that nightmare is finally over. But don't throw up your hands in ecstatic joy just yet. The ongoing war has generated evolving rules for aviation travel. This is the new era of "anhydrous travel." So what does that mean to me the consumer, the traveler, the guy who occasionally just has to get far, far away from Logan, UT? It means that unless I'm prepared, the burly Transportation Security Agency (TSA) guys will grunt even more loudly than c.-r < •'•• -W BY CYNTHIA HARMON Staff Writer With the excitem and toe-tapping rh swings back half a the Copacabana ir/ American histor America Show, production, of ebration to ent ber. They just keep coming and coming. And, presumably, the masses will keep going and going. Mostly an accomplished cinematographer, the director, Ericson Core (whose only other directing experience comes from the short-lived sitcom "Family Law"), delivers some exciting and intimate views of the bone-crushing action on the football field. But off the field, most viewers will find it a challenge to pay attention. Wahlberg plays the real-life character of Vince Papale, an ordinary man trying to get by during the employment and economical crisis of the 1970s in Philadelphia. His only outlets for enjoyment are playing football with his friends, including Tommy played by Kirk Acevedo ("The New World"), or watching the Philadelphia Eagles professional football team. Vince hasn't gotten much joy from the latter lately since the Eagles have been playing more and more horribly with each passing season. Everything in the production design reminds you that you're in the 1970s. And thanks to the director's experience as a cinematograbher (on such films as "Daredevil" and "The Fast and the Furious") the camera angels and lighting are striking but not overbearing. This makes "Invincible" a comparatively dark film in visual terms. All of .. » r • I I r* • INVINCIBLE seepage 75 • t f i l l |
